I'm doing the Cafemom question of the day. Why the hell not.
So, my first x-rays were when I was 10.
I was riding my bike with my sister and a neighbor/friend of ours. When going down a hill and around a curve, my bike hit a rock and I flew up and over the handlebars, and smacked my shoulder on the edge of the curb.
After crying the entire way home, with some stranger who saw me crash pushing my bike, my mom took me to the ER, where they took x-rays and confirmed that I'd broken my clavical. Ouch.
So, that was the first time. 7 years later, I was driving my mini-van, passed down from my mom when she got a new car, and I got rear-ended at a red light, when I was stopped behind a pick-up. My mini-van became a sandwich. I thought I was okay at the time, but later that night, my wrist started REALLY hurting, so we went to the ER, and I'd just sprained it badly, but no breaks.
A MONTH later: I had a new (used) car that was a manual, and I sucked at starting from a stop. I was hanging out with some friends at 4am, and we were leaving to go somewhere, and I kept killing the engine. The two guys started yelling "suggestions" and I got so fed up, that I just yelled, "Someone else f**king drive, then!" So I hopped in the back, and one of the guys went to drive.
That's the last thing I remember, but from what the police report and my friends who were with me said, he started driving at about 80mph, in a 35, and when we came up to a major intersection, the stoplight facing us was flashing red (for "treat it like a stop sign" since it was the middle of the night). Apparently he DIDN'T stop, and we got t-boned by the one and only other car out at 4 in the morning. I guess my car spun around a couple times, and took out a sign, before hitting the curb on the opposite side of the road and stopping.
I'm not entirely sure what followed, but I know a nice nurse stopped and put a comforter over me while we waited for the ambulances, and they cut the roof off my car to get me out.
At the ER, I only remember 3 things.
I won't go into details about everything else, but know that I got extensive x-rays, MRIs, and all sorts of crazy stuff. I have most of the x-rays and it's kind of neat to see your brain in cross-sections.
Oh, and I'm sorry to my sister. I took her belt and pants that night, which were ruined when they cut them off me.
Then, there's once more. About 6 months later, I'd married my husband and moved to Georgia, and got a new chiropractor to help with my injuries, and she took a series of x-rays as well. I have those, and man, if I could get those scanned, I'd love to. Spines, necks, and hips should NOT bend like mine.
So, that's four times I had x-rays, but the third time was about any kind you could imagine.
Edited to add
I forgot about dental x-rays. So, I've had more x-rays than the four sets that I can remember.
One of after my accident, because a few of my teeth were turning grey, but the roots healed. Apparently had I not had braces at the time, I would have lost teeth. Whee.
Comments:
yikes! I've never been in a car accident before but I did bust my face on concrete once. When I was 8. On a skateboard. lol that's my trauma.
