If You Don't Want an Opinion, Don't Ask For It!

i'm pretty sick and tired of people asking for an opinion and then getting pissed when they don't hear what they want to. and this goes for ANY topic. politics, religion, parenting, baby names, in-law issues...WHATEVER it is. don't ask for an opinion and then get pissy and leave in a huff, including calling people close-minded, extremists, intolerant etc etc etc when YOU were the one asking for the opinion in the first place. i'm pretty sure i can safely say that even with all the groups geared towards people of specific faiths, politics, tv shows, interests etc, you will NEVER find someone that agrees with you 100% of the time. why is is such a hard concept for people to understand what an opinion is and everybody's right to have one? you dont like the way someone worded their opinion? fine, then say that. but don't go personally attacking them just because you don't agree, especially when you were the one asking in the first place. don't ask for an opinion and then get pissed because all you really wanted from the beginning was for everyone to agree with you.

Nov. 27, 2007 at 1:38 PM You are right... when it comes to "tolerance" people are only tolerant of certain types of people.  So it's more like "selective" tolerance.  UGH.  If someone asks you what YOU think, then you have the right to tell them.  As long as it's done in a loving manner, then it's up to them what to do with your opinion.  But to throw it in your face and call YOU names... that's just plain ridiculous.  People like their egos stroked and want to hear people agree with them.  And when it doesn't happen, they get upset.  Oh well!  Jesus Himself didn't sugarcoat anything... so why should we?  :)

I hear ya loud and clear!! It would be nice if ppl would stop trying to force their "tolerance" down everybody else's throats b/c ppl happen to disagree.  

There seems to be more and more of ppl coming into CafeMom and saying "What do you ladies think of _____________?" and then if it isn't what they think, man do you get blasted for it!!  What a crock!!
