Driven by the desire to help her three-year-old daughter settle down into a peaceful night's sleep, Maureen Garth devised meditations that would help her daughter feel secure and cared for. Starbright is a collection of the stories Garth created as her child grew older. These innovative meditations are simple visualizations parents and teachers can read to their children to help them sleep, develop concentration, awaken creativity, and learn to quiet themselves.

"Unfortunately, a lot of children have trouble learning these techniques by the time they are seven or eight," writes Garth. "Relaxation and visualization, if taught at an earlier age, could enhance not only children's school work but other areas of their lives. Their concentration would improve; their artistic abilities would develop; they would feel more centered; their daydreaming could not only bring joy, but be constructive."

In her engaging, warm, and personal style, Garth teaches parents how to help their children relax, concentrate, and develop artistic and mental abilities, as well as enjoy a good night's sleep.

Nov. 27, 2007 at 5:01 PM Sounds awesome.  I am definitely gonna look into it.  Eli is only six months, but that will give me time to find the money for it I guess.  LOL  How old do they recommend starting?  I never even thought about meditating with child before.  Thanks bunches.

Nov. 27, 2007 at 10:13 PM I think Shelby could use this. She's holding onto her worries and stress, maybe a little nighttime meditation is what she needs? Thanks for posting.

Cool!  I think that is a PERFECT book for our Xmas wish list!!

Are they like short stories you read aloud while they close their eyes and visualize/relax??

exactly mommy tatum!

you start out every night with the star prelude.......where you have them visualize their very own star, which is filled with white light, then they visualize that whit elight coming down through the top of their heads and down through their whole body, then they lookinto their heart and fill it with love for all peopel and animals in the world until they feel it expanding with all the love, then they have a guardian angel/spririt that takes them to their garden where they must first put all their worries from the day on the worry tree, then the guardian opens the gate to lead tehm into their garden  and you describe the garden and then you move on to a meditation story that has to do with the things in their garden , the first night we went through and petted and rode on the nice peaceful animals in the garden and  another noght we left earth and went on a ride on a fluffy cloud to cloud land and another one we just laid in the grass in the garden and watched the clouds make shapes  and their are lots more... it is really cool , we have done it the last 3 nights and zeke has fallen asleep before i am done reading which is just crazy because he is such a yper kid.. i really think its is working to help calm him and def get him to sleep easier! i plan on investingh in the other 3 books eventually too!

Nov. 28, 2007 at 9:47 AM the author started when her daughter was 3 and a half i believe... but it doesnt really give a specific age, i wish i woulda started when zeke was like 2 or 3 though..i was a little apprehensiev since zeke is so hyper how he would react to the book but he really really enjoys it...
