I've decided that today -- Thursday -- is my Monday. If it could go wrong, it did.
The day started off with my waking up 15 minutes late -- not that bad. Or so you'd think. Those 15 minutes would have been useful in getting my kids' breakfast ready or something like that. I was running from the moment my feet hit the floor until it was nap-time for the little one!
I got the older kids to school -- barely! -- and had to drive to get a couple of prescriptions filled. Turns out that I have no more refills left and my dr wants me to come in to see her. No big, I called and was able to get an appt tomorrow morning (amazing, I know). After begging and pleading with the pharmacist, I was able to get a couple days worth of my medication until my dr called in an order for more.
Things pretty much went normally after that, until this afternoon. I picked up my two oldest from their bus stops and brought them home. I then left to pick up my 3rd from pre-kindergarten, when all of a sudden out of nowwhere, the "Hot Coolant Fluid" light comes on in my dash! I pull off to the side of the road and turn *everything* off, including the ignition. I used my cellphone to call DH and asked him to pick up #3 (he was picking up his new car -- Saturn Aura XR) from school so that I could take my car in. The first place that I called told me that I could leave it overnight and they might get to it the next morning because their service staff left at 4:30 (it was 4:20 when I called). I decided that wouldn't do, so I limped my poor minivan into a service station about 5 miles from my house. They were able to get it up immediately and gave me the bad news: the head gasket has sprung a leak and is venting exhaust into the coolant. To get all the work done on my car is going to cost a minimum -- minimum! -- of $2500! I wanted to cry! Instead, I told them to do the repairs, called for a rental, and am now stuck with a Durango until my car's fixed, which could be anywhere from Saturday to Tuesday. To make matters even better, we're supposed to have a whopper of a snow storm this weekend, dumping 12 to 15 inches of snow with lots of wind.
When I got home, it was 6:15 and DH hadn't done anything for dinner (kids made 2 bags of micro popcorn, so they weren't starving), so I immediately took out a frozen platter of enchiladas that I had in the freezer for emergencies and put those in the oven. While those were cooking, DH pulled me aside and told me that he had some bad news of his own. He needs to fly out to Chicago next Wednesday -- my birthday -- for work. He was really down about it, so I did my best to cheer him up, telling him that we could celebrate my birthday whenever, but I understood that this was for work. I really am trying to keep everything in perspective, but it seems like it's neverending! I guess it's just another Monday-like Thursday!
Thanks for letting me vent a bit. I needed to get this off my chest and didn't want to make DH feel any worse than he already is about having to go out on my birthday.
