Who Needs Friends Anyway?

We do.  We all need a friend.  I mean someone who will listen without making demands.  Someone who will hear without passing judgement.  Someone who nods at the right time, asks the appropriate qualifying questions, and appears empathetis and sympathetic.

We all need a friend.  I read your posts here on CafeMom and it affirms what I believe.  Miscarriages, abortions, divorce, sudden death, foreclosure, depression, isolation, disconnection, and hopelessness...  And that was just today!  We all need a friend.

What is a friend after all?  No, not Jennifer Aniston or Matt LeBlanc, come on!  According to Merriam-Webster's Dictionary, a friend is one who favors or promotes you.  Favors or promotes you...  Oh my, by this very broad definition, many of the folks who call themselves my friends cannot be.  Oh my...

Do you have friends?  Really?  I have CafeMom friends.  I don't know if friendship has to be bilateral.  I mean, I suppose I could be a friend to others and, yet, they not to me.  I try to read a journal from everyone once a week or write to my friends on CafeMom.  I call my real-world friends, text them, and send them emails inquiring about their lives.  I stop by homepages here and leave a message of hello, congratulations or consolation.

Ahhhh, I think its coming to me.  Some people have brainstorms.  My mind is more like a subsahran wastland than a tropical forest.  I have brain...sprinkles.  I digress.  I think the key to healthy relationships on all levels is to be blessed by giving, give without expectation of return, and choose the recipients with wisdom and compassion.  So...I am a friend.  And some of the folks I am friends of are also friends to me.  I don't know...maybe...perhaps...well, the sprinkle stopped!  Don't you hate when that happens.

What is this?  I have this little pin in my apron pocket and it says...just a minute...   Ummm...it says...God gives seed to sowers...  Hmmmm.    We all need friends!  Vote this popular (if of value to you) share it with someone.  Share it with yourself, beautifully, competent, valuable one.  The universe...God...has not left you here alone.  Friends find friends!  God gives seed to sowers!

I love the way you write. You're right, we should be friends first, and do it with no expectations. But give and you will receive.. eventually, right?
