With all the hustle and bustle lately, I haven't been reading as much as I would have liked. I've also got this issue with choice; as in, I have a lot of books to choose from. *sigh* yeah I know; sucks to be me, right? LOL So, with all these choices, I don't just pick one. It's almost like I'm hoarding these books or something! I just need to get over myself, no? haha
So, books :)
Last week, Week Three, I was reading Confessor by Terry Goodkind. It took me all week to read it, partly because I was kinda busy, and partly because I've been spending more time than usual on the computer.
I did finish Confessor, and I liked it. It's the last book in The Sword of Truth series that Terry Goodkind has been writing. He did kill off one of my favorite characters, but I can see why the sacrifice was necessary. Not all the good guys win all the time, right? And there is no doubt that the good guys DID win at the end of this series, casualties nonetheless.
I wonder what he's going to write next...
I've been working on Grave Peril by Jim Butcher. I'm going to finish that by tomorrow, no matter what! It's a good book, I just keep putting it down to do other things.
Next week I will probably read another book by Jim Butcher, Cursor's Fury, book three in his Codex Alera series. These books, I think I like more than the Dresden Files, although, truth be told, I really couldn't choose between the two. Both series are so good, so entertaining and I get so involved in the characters and the plots.
I think *blush* that I may have an "author crush" on Mr. Butcher. Seriously. *ahem* but that's a whole different topic, for a whole new blog....
I have a few books coming in the mail. Or, at least, in theory. They were shipped a few weeks ago and still have yet to arrive, and it's annoying the hell out of me. But they will arrive; I have no doubt. It's just WHEN is the question.
SO in addition to Cursor's Fury, I can choose from A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Houseini, Double Cross by James Patterson, Emissary by Fiona McIntosh, or the Philip Pullman trilogy, His Dark Materials. You know all that hype about The Golden Compass? Yeah, that trilogy. I bought it *for* my older two daughters, but I want to read it myself. Which is why I really bought it!
I haven't decided which one of the above I'm going to read yet. Any suggestions?
As to my recommendations, I am going to say... Good In Bed by Jennifer Weiner. Oh, yeah. It's a great book. I love Ms. Weiner's books, and this was her first one. NO, for those of you not in the know, it's not a Kama Sutra type book; it's fiction, about a woman named Cannie Shapiro who breaks up with her boyfriend, who in turn starts writing a column for a well read magazine... about her. And their relationship. And the very first article is call "Loving a Larger Woman".... Because, you see, Cannie is not your typical size six. She's what is called "plus-size", with a tenuous grip on self-acceptance. And then she gets plunged into the worst year of her life... with amazing results. So read the book. You won't regret it!
Also, I recommend The Stand by Stephen King. Ever wish that everyone would just go away? What if they really did? What if world peace could be achieved... with a man-made plauge? What if good and evil could actually be defined... and there could only be one victor? Which side would you really be on? Wanna find out? Then read this one. It's a long one... so settle in.
Alright, that was fun, no? Enjoy!
