After 18 days at the hospital, Emerson was released on Saturday. It is wonderful to be home, but even more wonderful that she is doing so well. She is the same sweet little girl she was before that awful pnemonia and subsequent surgery.
I am going to be staying with her all week (no school for either of us). She has an appointment on Wednesday with her surgeon, to take her chest tube stiches out and then one on Friday with her pediatrican to make sure she is ready to go back to school.
She is pretty back to normal, except her right side is a little sensitive. She is running around like a bad women, dancing, singing, coloring, and making big messes. I have never been so happy to be so annoyed!
This was an awful experience but it has taught us so much. Emerson is a strong, amazing little girl that can do anything. Even at her sickest she was still a joy to be around...all of the nurses and doctors loved her. It has also been reinforced to Patrick and I that we cannot take any moment with our greatest joy for granted. Patrick and I were also strong
I love my Emerson so much and I am so happy she is healthy and happy again. She is getting so excietd to be a big sister. She has informed us that the new baby is a boy. She said and I quote " Daddy has a penis and new baby has a penis" (she said this in front of about 3 doctors and a nurse). She says she wants to teach her new brother how to drink chocolate milk and to read.
Thanks to everyone that sent positive thoughts Emerson's way...it means a lot!
Mandy
Glad everyone is doing well! You're so right about realizing not to take things (or people!) for granted! I'm so happy you're back at home and that Emerson was such a trooper!
Take care,
Katie
