A little history about myself.....as all of my friends know I have 5 children.  Well, I breastfed all of my children for a year or more, that includes my twins.  With my first child I was a bit self-conscious about bf him in public, so if we were at a restaurant I would go into the bathroom(talk about a pain in my back!) I only did that once, never again!  Or I would go out to the car, so I wouldn't offend anyone.  Then my twins came along, all modesty was out the window!  It had to be, try bfing twins in the football hold, and stay covered up when your babies grab the blanket and rip it off!!  So anyhow, after my twins I bf wherever I was and just didn't give a poop who was there.  No big deal.

Now lets fast forward 8 years....Here I am at the mall with my friend, and her baby is howling to be fed, and she breastfeeds, so we find a cozy little spot for her to nurse.  We are sitting for no less than 5 minutes and the manager from the store across from where we are sitting asks us we could please move to a more discreet area b/c we are offending his customers!  My friend said no.  Simply no.  Good for her!!  I  informed him that in the state of Oregon it is legal to bf in public, and if people don't like it than they can just turn their little eyes away from the breastfeeding mother.  Now ladies my friend was covered up, discreet, you couldn't even tell she was bfing b/c her baby was in a sling.  Anyhoo, securtiy kicked us out of the mall, they were very clear that it wasn't for bfing in public but for being rude and aggressive.  Interesting that in this day, and in the state that I live in people can be so ignorant.  We are now planning a breastfeeding sit in at this mall!  Can't wait!

Dec. 6, 2007 at 4:16 PM I would report the store to the state. Illinois is a state that sends a card to new moms letting them know it is a law to be able to breastfeed in public and to report it if you are harrased. I would say take action and good for you two.I am a proud breastfeeding mom and like you said if your friend was not all exposed then they need to shut the ....... up.

Dec. 6, 2007 at 4:26 PM Let me guess...was it a Simon Mall? Ugh, I've had nothing but bad expierences in the local Simon Mall here! I would deffinately complain to head quarters! I wish I lived in Oregon so I could come and support you!!! The security had NO right to kick you out of the mall! How dare they! These kinds of stories make me so angry! And you're right, these people are so IGNORANT!

Dec. 6, 2007 at 8:59 PM That is a shame.  These same people probably go to the girlie bars!! Breasts are not sexual when feeding a baby for goodness sakes.
