Well it is pushing the two week mark that I have elminated red dye from Zack's diet. He is doing really good on the diet. He will ask me if something has red dye in it before he eats it. The hardest is he can't have the occasional fruit snack! I want to go to the whole foods store to see if I can find some that he can have but our local grocer does not have any.

Well people are starting to notice that he is acting calmer and not flipping out over the stupidest things. So DH and I were talking that we think the diet is working and last night my mom watched the boys and she said that Zack was so good (normally he is very good for her but will still have some outbursts if he wants a toy, etc) and she had been impressed with him.

Today my SIL brought over presents for the kids and the door to the Ninja Turtle van broke off (Alex and Zack was playing with it) and Alex picked it up to have DH fix it and NORMALLY Zack would have screamed and totally flipped out cause Alex was taking it...but HE DID NOT! He calmly got up and walked over to see how DH was fixing it. MY SIL about fell off her chair.! LOL!

I am not saying that Zack is perfect now but we are noticing some major improvments in his everday functions! Which is a plus for us. He is also picking on the dog less (still some, but less!) He has still had a couple time outs each day but are taking them and not fighting me.  SO overall I am really pleased.

What gets me about reading the ingriedients on everything is some of the stuff that has Red dye in it that I would never have thought! And some things I think for sure would have it do not!! LOL! We are still learning what he can and cannot eat and so far it looks like I don't have to cutt out all the artifical coloring since we are making progress!

Thanks to everyone for your support!

Dec. 15, 2007 at 2:19 PM I too am trying to eliminate red dye from my son's diet.  I keep hearing that it makes kids hyper.  I found some fruit snacks that don't have red dye!!!  I found them at Super Target.  The brand is Motts.  Ian loves them.  Hope you can find them where you are.  If your son is anything like him he loves fruit snacks!  I was so happy when I found those!!!

Dec. 15, 2007 at 2:21 PM JUST artificial dyes? or have you cut other things too? because honestly, that just seems too darn easy... I have a 4 year old that TORMENTS our dog, and is BOUNCING off the walls constantly. Except for at school. He's helpful, loving, kind and empathetic there... they've seen 2 or 3 teeny tiny episodes like what I see at home, but nothing even remotely close... so I'm wondering if it's just ME... but his brother didn't act like this. Not at all. I could take that boy anywhere, any time, and he'd be fine. He always asked before taking anything.... really an awesome, polite kid... I don't believe I'm doing anything differently... with the exception that THIS one has TWO parents in the home, instead of just one. You know. the "Ideal" family. UGH!

Dec. 15, 2007 at 5:12 PM try fruitbu http://www.fruitabu.com/ great all natural pressed fruit.  If you write them they will send you coupons.  We stay away from all dye colors but mostly red and orange because that can affect their brains.
