"Sing to the Lord, for he has done glorious things; let this be known to all the world" (Isaiah 12:5).

Read: Isaiah 12:2-6

Reflect: "Joy to the world! the Lord is come," I sang as a teenager. I loved caroling all night with the church choir. We began at 11 p.m. on Christmas Eve and sang at each church member's home throughout our rural community.

Several families invited us in (even at two or three a.m.) to warm ourselves by crackling fires and refuel with hot chocolate, sloppy joes, and homemade fudge. After stuffing ourselves, we waddled to our cars like fat Christmas geese and continued caroling until four or five a.m. What a time of celebration and joy!

And why not sing and rejoice? We have good news to share! A Savior was born and brought the gift of salvation. Isaiah wrote, "Sing to the Lord, for he has done glorious things; let this be known to all the world (v. 5).

Many in my personal "world" do not know Jesus, the reason for our jubilance. Their parties and gift exchanges can't satisfy the longings of their hearts. Even if I don't testify in words that the Lord is my strength, song, and salvation (v. 2), I can pray for unbelievers and witness through my actions. When I invite neighbors in for dessert, take friends to a festive church program, bring home baked cookies to a lonely widow, or sing carols on a doorstep, I share the love and hope of our Savior's birth.

This Christmas, let's spread the good news and sing, "Joy to the world! the Lord is come; Let earth receive her King; Let ev'ry heart prepare Him room" (Isaac Watts).

Respond: Lord Jesus, you are my strength, my song, and my salvation. Help me share the joy and hope I have with others. As I prepare room for you in my heart, let me overflow with fresh adoration and worship of the newborn King.
