Delusions of grandeur.

Thank goodness I am able to laugh about this today...

Last night, for a moment, my wonderful nine month old Bernese Mountain dog, Brinkley caused all hearts to stop.   I was sidetracked (again) because I was hosting our Festivus party and guests would very soon be arriving.  When I answered the phone, certain that it was one of my friends calling to cancel, I set my hearing aid down (I don't even remember WHERE, shame on me) and had forgotten that the dog was not confined to his kennel.  After the phone call, my middle child came into the office where I was busily making revisions on my "to-do" list (and checking them twice).
She said in her sweet little voice, "Mommy, here's your hearing aid."  Holding it out in her hand I saw it had been broken cleanly in two, it's tiny little wires sticking out willy-nilly and the casing chewed beyond recognition.  *Gasp!*   It was a very sad sight to behold.

THAT DOG DESTROYED A $1500 HEARING AID!!

While at the time I was furious, I couldn't very well blame him.  I left it within his reach when I answered the phone...so it was my own fault.  Everyone knows the enticing aroma of a freshly worn hearing aid is too powerful for even the most self-disciplined dog!
Luckily, Brinkley (only) mauled it and Lily was able to get it away from him before he could devour the aid in its entirety.  My first thought was, "Oh, NO!!!"  My second thought was,"Tell me he didn't eat the battery!!"  (Do you know what hearing aid batteries can DO to a dog?)  Last night proved to be lucky for both of us in its own way.  The battery was still intact within the (indistinguishable) hearing aid!  In fact, the small battery door was the only thing that still worked!  The party would still go on as planned since there was no need to rush Brinkley to the vet for emergency surgery.  YAY!! (And WHEW!!)
It was indeed a Festivus MIRACLE!!!

Oh no! Silly Brinkley! Im glad to know all went well. (I was going to say, glad to "hear" it all went well but I wasnt sure if that would be taken as funny?) Hope you took pictures!

My back is out as usual so I've been having trouble getting around and sleeping. So I shall be the Christmas zombie this year. Maybe they can just prop me up against the tree with some egg nog? Too bad I dont drink, huh? :)

Well, keep an eye on that hearing aid, young lady! *wags finger* ;) And have a great day!

Our dog ate my mother's hearing aid and few years back. She was really, really upset about it for a long time. *sigh*

I'm so glad it all turned out relatively well for you. No drama like holiday drama!   :)

I know it's not funny but it's good you can laugh about it now. That was a Festivus Miracle that Brinkley didn't eat the whole thing esp. the battery.  My pup had chewed up my glasses one night while I was sleeping, my own fault for leaving them on the coffee table{ maybe if I had a coffee table book on top the coffee table she would'nt have gotten them}. I hope you put this on the list for the airing of grievances. Maybe he thought the hearing aid was challenging him in the feats of strength.

The really need a Festivus sweet pea

Thank goodness he didn't swallow it.  I have  a story on the same lines. But not as expensive.  When i graduated college they mailed me my official diploma in a formal white envelope. I opened it looked at it and set in on the countertop under some books before going to work,  My border collie got on a chair and pulled that white envelope and contents out from under the books (How and Why?)  I got home  and found my chewed up college diploma on the floor.  Of course its easily replaced, but the ladies in the regisrars office couldn't quit laughing.  The Dog ate my Diploma!
