Making Do When you live on a tight budget you quickly learn how to make do with what you have!

Out of bleach and have a load of whites to do? Here’s some great substitutes:

Dish Washing Machine Detergent - ½ cup to a regular sized load of whites, hot water

Comet Cleanser - ¼ cup to a regular sized load of clothes, hot or cold water

Baking Soda in the wash - Vinegar in the rinse - 1 cup each, hot or cold water

Pringle’s Potato Chip Cans

Spaghetti noodle storage cans

Plastic bag storage cans

Great in the garden for sprinkling Seven Dust on plants, simply poke a few holes in the lid to make a shaker

Gallon Milk Jugs

Cut through the handle about an inch down from the top, and remove about ¼ inch of plastic. This is to make a way to hang the jug on your clothes line. Now cut a round hole a little bigger than your fist into the front of the jug, close to the top. Fill with your clothes pins! The plastic jug will easily slide right down the clothes line as you hang your clothes.

Net Produce Sacks

Onion or fruit sacks made of net can be easily turned into “soft scrub” pads by simply rolling them up. They won’t scratch non-stick cookware, and scrub really well.

Dec. 30, 2007 at 10:24 AM I used my empty milk jugs for ghosts on Halloween.  I filled them with water and used a perm. marker to put black eyes and mouths on them.  Really cool!
