Why should you get into heaven?

Our pastor gave us a homework assignment. We were to ask at least five people what they would say when they died and Jesus asked them, "why should I let you into heaven?" So, I've decided to ask my fellow Cafemoms. I'm not looking to start a debate or have anyone judging others because of their responses. Just wanted to see what everyone had to say. If you don't believe in God then there's no need to comment.  I don't want to offend anyone.  So...

 When you die and have to stand before Jesus who asks, "why should I let you into heaven?" How would you respond?

Dec. 31, 2007 at 10:26 AM I would probably respond with, " Because I asked you to come into my life. I haven't always done the right things but I am a Christian and I have been saved and I have asked for forgiveness."  I always wondered if Jesus asked that or if you are in because you are saved.

ha!  i would say...look, God, have you been watching the events of my life...i have EARNED it!  ha...ok, seriously, i don't think i would honestly have an answer.  i mean, for every good deed i am sure there has been a bad one to trump it.  do any of us really deserve to be in heaven?  nobody is perfect.  i think i would just choose to stand outside the gate, look in on heaven and be thankful i had that opportunity for eternity!! 

I love the Lord, I want to be as close to him as I can.  But he sets the rules there...all i can do here is try my best to always turn to Him, to rely on Him, to trust Him that he will help me make those right choices in life.  Hope for the best and except what you are given...that's how i live my life here, and i don't expect it to be any different when I cross to that other side.

I don't think I'd say anything, only worship Jesus.  Who am I?  I've done nothing to deserve to get into heaven, but by the grace of God.

Dec. 31, 2007 at 10:28 AM that is a very good question, i will probably spend a few years in puritory( then again i think they don't have that anymore) but any way, i think i lived a pretty good life.  i was kind to others, i believe in God, i haven't killed anyone although there has been times when i felt like it(jk).   i try to be the best  christian i can be, and i know i fall short at times, i'm not perfect. i know that i haven't done anything that would send me to hell, so really why wouldn't i go to heaven.

Dec. 31, 2007 at 10:58 AM I would say that I love Jesus and I know that I am a sinner and ask forgiveness. If you truly believe and love me I would love to be part of your heaven.

Jan. 2, 2008 at 4:19 PM Thank you ladies so much for your replies! I really appreciate it. My answer to this question would be that I don't deserve to go to heaven.  The only reason for me to go to heaven is that I have accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior.  I'm far from perfect and a constant sinner, but I've asked Jesus into my heart and He is the way to heaven.
