Question about tetanus for anybody, but especially those who are non-vaxers

Hi, any advice will be so much appreciated.  My 21 month old got her pinky caught in one of those flat moving walkways at the airport.  No broken bones, but the skin and nail are pretty torn up.  She is not vaxed.  The 'doctor' at the airport reccommended getting her her tetanus vax because you never know what is on people's shoes, especially since we were coming from Guatemala on not even through customs.  Any thoughts?  Her finger will be fine, she is so brave - she might lose the nail... but now I am fearful of the shot thing.  Just so happens that we have a doc's appt. for her today (a once a year occurance!) and they will be able to check out her finger.  I hope somebody out there reads this because I feel desperate for advice.  THANKS!
