ErikaRobin's Journal

Delusions of grandeur.

Lately I've gotten the distinct impression that my mother-in-law thinks I'm a complete buffoon.  Here's my tale:

Dear mother-in-law recently bought a new refrigerator.  When she got hers, we got her old one.   She takes extraordinarily good care of her things, so her twenty year old refrigerator was in much better condition than our fifteen year old one.  Considering the poor condition of my refrigerator, with its handle-less doors and scratched exterior, her fridge looked like the Mona Lisa of refrigerators!

The shelves on the inside of the door to ours looked hideous.  The brackets that once kept various jams, jellies and salad dressings secure in their nooks had long ago lost their hold on the door and were held together with strips of silver-grey duct tape.  It's not a fashion statement....more of a fashion "exclamation".

My mother-in-law's fridge is pristine.  There are no odd smells emanating from within its chilly confines.  The outer door is scratch-free and even has the original ice cube trays still in the freezer.  It was what I found on these trays that led me to the conclusion that she believes her thirty-six year old daughter-in-law (little old me) to be "domestically challenged".

Attached to the trays was this note:

"Erika,

To remove ice, twist the trays."

LMAO! That's awesome!

My family's old fridge, my dad drilled holes in the door where the milk is held and the bar was missing to "install" a black rubber bungee cord to hold all in! If my dad could rig it as opposed to buying a new one, he would.

Yeah, I could picture you with a sharp knife trying to dig those cubes out now! Thank goodness for her note! LOL!

maybe she thought you were just used to the new icemakers in fridgerators.  You know the ones with button on the door?

I can't stand getting things from My MIL.  I don't want any more of her handme downs.  I want our house to be about us, not her.
