I am doing some research into women covering their heads/hair, because of Christian beliefs/principles...  I really feel like the Lord is working on my heart in the matter of modest dress and headcovering... Any thoughts/opinions on this? I really want to please the Lord and show my submission to my husband's headship... and I am feeling compelled to at a MINIMUM consider headcovering...
Here are some links I've found so far. If anyone has any suggestions, ideas or thoughts in this, or more links/scripture to share, please let me know! I'd love to discuss this with other Christian women! :)

If there is an Islamic mosque in your area, check with their women's groups.  Muslim women have the headcoverings down to a fine art!  (Every time I tried to wear a scarf to protect my hairdo, it either did more damage than the wind, or was just blown off BY the wind!)

After 9/11, there was a group of Baptist women who wore headcoverings as a show of support for Muslim women.  It wasn't Muslims, but terrorists, who flew the planes into the World Trade Center towers.  They went to the Islamic women's group at a nearby mosque to find out how they wore them and got them to stay in place and look so nice.  I had a lot of respect for those Baptist women, even though I've been royally sc^*#ed by the "good Christian" people in every church I've ever belonged to or attended, and by a whole lot more I met outside of any church.  Those ladies did a lot to resurrect my faith in "Christianity" as it's represented by humans, but not enough to drag me back into the dogma.

Jan. 8, 2008 at 10:28 PM I am a Christian, Baptist to be more specific and I don't wear head coverings. I do however where a skirt daily. I used to wear pants then the Lord dealt with me and let me know that it was wrong. So I wear skirts or dresses. I do still wear pj pants to bed, that is in my own home where noone but my husband and kids will see.

I actually have some good links on this...I will send you info when I get a chance.

I personally do not believe we are required to cover now. That is from the OT and is passed away.

Modest dress is ALWAYS the best way to go, and it doesn't have to be dresses and skirts either~just modest dress that does not draw attention to one's self.

I would encourage you to ask your husband first before making any dramatic changes. :)

Jan. 9, 2008 at 12:19 AM I think that the biblical mandate for head coverings for women was addressing a specific place and time. Also a specific culture....what is considered modest varies from place to place...I don't think women should have to wear head coverings today. I believe that would be going backwards to a time when women were considered to be inferior...

Jan. 9, 2008 at 6:32 PM I agree about head coverings being of the OT and a cultural thing, but.....  Sometimes God has his way of dealing with people.  I don't know you, but maybe clothing might be an issue he wants to to surrender to him and is leading to be extreme in order to full surrender.  Now having said that, it can be apart of human nature to want to take things to extremes believing it's for God.  Whatever you do should give glory to God, and not be something that draws attention to you.

I Samuel 16: 7 "... The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart."

God is concerned with my heart, but not with my outward appearance.  I can choose to dress how I like because it's not important to God.  I dress modestly, but my idea of what's modest & what is not will differ from other believers.  I'm just called to love everyone with no thought to how they are dressed.
