I broke my twins of the binkie (or paci, as they called it) just after they turned two. We had restricted it to only naptime and bedtime shortly after they turned one. And the car if it was a long trip.
It took a few months to convince them, but we started talking to them about being big kids and not needing the paci anymore. One night, I just said "let's try it for one night without a paci, and we'll see how that goes" They resisted and cried, and were asleep *without paci* within 15 minutes. The next morning I praised them for making it the whole night w/out it. I did that for about 3 nights, and then they stopped asking!
I think if you cut the tip completely off, there shouldn't be a risk of choking...however, I do think you'll get the same response as if you were cutting the kid off cold turkey...so I would say..."Just Say No".
Personally my son never took to one..until he was older and wanted to be "a baby" but I did the cold turkey thing for the bottle. I think if you start teaching them that it's really easy to give up an addiction now, they might not have that problem later....Now...if you have booger eating advice, I'm all ears!
