We have the strangest cat I have ever known. Okay, except my sister's cat, Anni. So, my cat Audrey runs a close 2nd. Here's the deal. We adopted her while I was pregnant with the twins. I really wanted a "lap cat." One that loved me and cuddled with me, etc. My last 2 cats were just that. Pony, was a 3-legged lover-boy whom I had to put to sleep at the age of 19 years, while I was pregnant w/my 2nd child. I had him since he was a tiny kitten. Other than my family members, he was the "person" I knew longest in my life. Bailey was my baby. I had to put her to sleep also while I was pregnant with my 2nd son when she was 13 years old, Had also had her since she was a kitten. Pony adored me and Bailey thought I gave birth to her. They followed me everywhere. Pony slept on my head and Bailey slept between my knees. That's what I was looking for.
When we saw Audrey in the cage at PetSmart she was very outgoing and seemed to want to touch us. I thought she was perfect. She is absolutely beautiful. She was 9 months old when we adopted her. My DH didn't even want a pet but we had a problem with the geckos coming into our house and wanted a deterrent. I do have to say that we have only had one gecko in the house since Audrey moved in.
So, she does love me, but she hardly ever lets me touch her. She follows me everywhere, even to the bathroom. She generally sits very close to me, but never on me. She will come over and let me pet her a few times a day, but never purrs all that much and doesn't behave as if it is all that important to her. She is very playful and although we want her to be a completely indoor cat, she does ANYTHING to escape to the great outdoors. She is fully vaccinated and we keep her protected against fleas and ticks BUT she kills birds. We have tried all kinds of collars with bells and such and somehow she still manages to slay the poor birdies. That scares me because my babies ADORE her and I don't like thinking she has dead bird cooties when she does come back from one of her great escapes.
Her saving grace is her relationship with the twins. She truly believes she is the triplet in the situation. I have NEVER seen a cat tolerate so much from youngsters. Those babies can do anything to that poor cat and she is fine with it. They have pulled her fur, her tail, her whiskers, her collar, fallen right on top of her, you name it and she has NEVER struck out at them in defense. Not one scratch. Does anyone have a cat that is this tolerant? It blows me away.
Anyway, Zoe adores Audrey. Her fist word was TeeTee, her word for kitty. The cat plays with them and their toys. It is hysterical. So despite the fact that she isn't lovey-dovey, she meows WAY too much, and is a cold blooded bird killer she is a member of the family. She is Reed and Zoe's triplet that they never knew they had. I guess we are lucky to have her.
