Did someone help you in a time of need? Perhaps there was a teacher that had a huge impact on your future. Did your husband do something just for you that touched you so deeply? Come share your stories?

There have been so many things that have been a blessing. Here is my story about how being good to others can come full circle.
I used to work at a hospital in ICU as a respiratory therapist. My job included taking care of open heart patients fresh from O.R. I was responsible for placing the patient on the ventilator and helping them breathe until they woke up. One day a patient came out of the O.R already waking up (not a common thing usually takes 4 or more hours) the patient was really uncomfortable and was fighting the ventilator and causing himself more pain. The doctor wasn't happy he was awake and was yelling at the nurses and patient. I kept talking to the patient getting him to calm down, once calm I managed to convince the doctor to remove breathing tube and let me work with the patient rather than knock the patient out completely. BIG difference in patient once tube out, he had been panicking and felt like he was drowning. I worked with him and he did just fine, before he left ICU he kept thanking me for helping him. I saw lots of patients and soon forgot about him.
Fast forward 1 1/2 year after event, my car had broke down, looked like a leaking radiator. My husband was out of town on business, I was stranded at a office building with 2 small kids and no kowledge of how to fix the car. I was getting ready to get the car towed and dreading the cost because money was REALLY tight as I had quit work to home school the kids. A gentleman came up and started helping me, ended up he owned a garage about 2 miles from where we were. He fixed the car enough to get to garage. Once there he fixed the radiator, came in to tell me it need a little more work, all the while he kept looking at me funny. Then he ask me.."do I know you?" we started talking...he ask if I worked at the hospital...when I said I had he ask if I had worked in ICU, once again I agreed. Then he pulled the collar of his shirt low showing me his open heart incision scar and ask me if I remembered him because he remembered me. He was the patient who was awake from the O.R. He went back to finish fixing the car and his wife and I talked more - she told me how he talked about the 'angel' who saved him in the ICU and she knew it had to be me. ANYWAY...he finally fixed the car, came in and told me what he had done. When I ask how much I owed he told me nothing...telling me I saved him in the ICU it was his turn to help save me. I think I cried the entire way home.

i've had a million things but nothing like @ christmas time...
I just recently joined a mothers group here in town, and this lady Kim has adopted me as i have adopted her as my older sister. Well she organized a HUGE christmas thing for my family. As she found out more about us she learned that we are down n out and didn't have anything for christmas. SO, she organized with ALL the other moms in the group a beautiful Christmas eve for us. She came over on Christmas eve with a WHOLE BACK END OF A TRUCK full of gifts for us. Mainly the kids, which is WONDERFUL for me. It was sooooooooooooooooooooooo awesome to see the way these mothers gave, and that is what makes me excited and proud to be apart of this mothers group now.
I broke my foot and was driving one of them motorized carts around the grocery store shopping for Thanksgiving. The store had a promotion going during the previous month where depending how much you spent...they gave you coupons that were to be used towards your turkey purchase....well a lady I did not know came up to me and gave me 10 dollars worth of coupons for my turkey, and then when she had checked out...she found me again and gave me another 2 dollars worth of coupons totalling 12 dollars off ...plus I had a little over 5 dollars already...and my turkey which was HUGE...only ended up costing like 10 dollars...it was so awesome of her...I almost cried...and because of that ladies kindness....we were able to have a VERY thankful thanksgiving.
I've always been the kind of person who feels the need to help people though. If I see a little old lady having a hard time getting across the street...I offer my arm and escort her across....If I see someone a little short on cash at the grocery store...i cover they're difference so they don't have to make the decision of what has to be left behind(even If I don't have alot of money). My mom has always been that kind of person. She is a genuinely nice person and I strive to be like her...sometimes I flub up..but I try and I think if everybody did just once it would be a nicer place to live and less violence in the world...just my theory though.

A lot of people have done nice things for me but one that sticks out in my memory was a strangers kindness. It was my sons 7th birthday, I took him and my 2 other sons to Mcdonalds along with my sons friend. We pulled up at the drive thru I told her my order, I believe it was 4 happy meals. I didn't order anything for myself, i was trying to save money. I get to the window to pay and hand over the money. The cashier shakes her head, I thought, what, isn't it enough money. Then she says " The lady ahead of you, she doesn't know you but, she just paid for you meals." I was just shocked, I couldn't believe this woman who I had never met or seen before just bought all the kids' happy meals. I think that was truely one of the kindest things that a stranger has ever done for me. One day when money is not so tight I plan to do this it may not be at the fast food but I will do it someday, somewhere. :) Really good topic by the way. Happy Martin Luther King Day Weekend.
