Chinese Dragon Craft for Scouts

I am asking for some help here.  Nicholas is in Cub Scouts and the Blue and Gold banquet is in February and the theme this year is Chinese New Year.  We would like to do a dragon for the centerpiece, but I am having trouble finding anything.  We would even like it if we could put a diffuser in it to make it smoke.  Anyone make something like this?  I would love some ideas on how to build this.

We will also maybe make paper laterns, placemats, fortune cookie craft.  I am thinking it would be cool for the placemats that the boys learn to write Happy New Year in Chinese.

Thank you for any ideas you can throw our way.

momto...
Try Yankee Candle or Partylite maybe they might have something with a dragon or theme you are looking for. I'll keep an eye open for you if I see anything!

gemin...

If he has to make the dragon... a dryer vent hose will be about the right shape or size, and will bend or flex into any position. He can papier mache over it so it's paintable. Dry ice hidden in the nose of the face will make it look like it's smoking without the danger of flames.

If you don't want to build a dragon, try the ethnic market at Target. They had a huge dragon sculpture at my local one.

I found little metal lanterns with cutout Chinese kanji at the dollar store. Each one holds a tea-light candle. If you have an ethnic market in your area, try there for something similar.

Waxed paper works well in place of rice paper to diffuse light if you're doing paper lanterns.

Your local craft store (like Michael's) may have stuff too, like replica Chinese coins, paper, ink, etc.
