Last night I had a long and convoluted dream. I was travelling with my family. We were in NYC somewhere, and we went into a sort of country store or boutique. It had all sorts of old-fashioned things and some new things too (like a room full of "take your own portrait" machines, that you could add old-fashioned scent to and send out on Victorian paper as a post card, antique linens, samples of old-type sweets and more). We were all exploring the stuff when it dawned on me that some of the samples were in fact not meant to be free. We had eaten some things and opened scent and lotion samples and they were not meant to be free... but we didn;t pay for it because others seemed similarly confused on this point and there were empty wrappers around.
America appeared at her present age, and was going to go somewhere, I vaguely remember. Athena was suppoed to go to a certain department and come back in a minute. The back of thise Victorian shop had now appeared like the inside of a Macy's where it attaches to a large mall. Athena did not come back, and when I was questioned by the store about where she was I said I didn;t know because I was looking for her myself when she didn;t come back. The store sent 2 identical ladies to find her outside the store in the big mall. Then I saw the 3 of them coming down the escalator in the front of the store. Athena had all sorts of clothes in garment bags and still on hangers that she had picked out for herself. I yelled at her because she had not come right back like she should have.
We tried to leave the store but couldn't find a way back out. We went toward the door where we came in but for some reason couldn't get out. Then there was an earthquake. At first we thought it was a truck going by or something, but it went on and on. We got under a large archway and watched the wooden pillars sway. The ceiling was probably 30 feet high and all the old oak traim was swaying and vibrating. Fortunately the old place was built well-enough to withstand the shock. Up to this point I had the sensations of anxiety, fear, dread, and a little shopping rush (when we first started into the store).
Then, as if I were watching TV, I saw a story about people taking a plane from Los Angeles Airport to Hawaii, and the flight was only a few hundred yards. You could see Hawaii from the airport and they still flew. I wondered if it wasn't very difficult to stop the plane having gone such a short distance, and why didn't the people swim or walk to Hawaii?
Somehow we were now out of the store. It was a brisk fall day in a residential area of NYC - brownstones and leaves. We had some samples we had taken from the store, and as we passed by some houses, my husband decided to take some large Halloween containers from in front of somebody's house. I told him not to, that it was stealing, but he giggled and picked up some jack 'o latern leaf bags that were 1/2 full and along the side of the road too. Then he some things into the containers and opened up my car to hide everything. We rearranged my car so they could be in the back where it would be hard to see them.
Then we were getting on one of those flights from Los Angeles to Hawaii. There was seemingly no connection between the car scene and the flight to Hawaii. I was excited, but worried about the flight. Then I woke up. Anybody have an insights into this dream???
Comments:
I went to a ite called Dream Dictionary.
Losing a child is supposed to mean your inner child or childlike qualities are lost or I'm afraid that are slipping away.
ME being lost means I am unsure about my present course (YA THINK?!).
The earthquake represents upheaval and unsteadiness from my foundations up. Uh huh.
Hawaii is supposed to represent an escape and relaxation - which even though I am home, i am not experiencing, and long for.
Stealing (this is interesting) represents deprivation, and where you steal in the dream is indicative of where you are being deprived in life. So I am being deprived of frivolous anitquities, sweets and oddities eh? True enough. I don;t know what it means that my husband stole Halloween buckets from somebody's lawn though.
Autumn in a dream means something is about to end and there will be something new. I HOPE SO!
Smelling something in a dream is a scent from the past bringing old feelings. When I smelled the old-fashioned scent, it was sort of like Love's Baby Soft with roses and lilacs in it or something... sweet but not gross, definitely floral... I don't know where I might have smelled that scent before, unless maybe at my grandmother's. She had all sorts of smelly stuff in her walk-in bathroom closet/dressing room. In the dream I definitely dfelt like it was a Victorian scent - nothing is like it today.
Airplanes in dreams foretell overcoming obstacles and gaining or regaining status (again, I HOPE!)
Arches represent a support system, and passing under one signifies a new direction and new opportunities in life. Now how about taking shelter under one? I guess that would be taking cover within my support system? I wish it was more the latter... but then I DID pass through it to leave. Hmm...
If anybody wants to look stuff up, here is the link I used: http://www.dreammoods.com/
Oh, and yes we do get quakes here... itty bitty ones. The Adirondacks are a fault, but unlike the west coast, our shelves are coming together.

hahahahaha - I'm feeling really good that I'm not the only one with dreams like this! My husband is always amazed that I can remember details - but I see you do too!
Interpretation? Wow! I have no idea. Somewhere around this house I have a book that helps interpret dreams, but I think the book is in the junk room, so there's no use looking for it now. Gotta get ready for work.
You might be able to check on the internet for the meanings (?) I'd like to know what it means too.
The earthquake part has me stumped - do you have earthquakes in NY? You described it like it really is.
