Last week I started having all the symptoms of pregnancy, I took a test and it was negative. Then on Sunday (after being 10 days late) I took an EPT Test and it was positive, it was faint but it was enough to see, well because of my insecurities I went to the store Monday and bought a First Response test and took it, It was also positive but more defined. So we discussed waiting to tell everyone until after I had blood work to confirm things. ( after having 3 miscarriages, your not quite as eager to share it with the world.) So yesterday morning I woke up and had some pinkish discolor when I pottied. So I thought to myself that I should go ahead and call and get the bloodwork, Well I called and they said they would send me for bloodwork and jumped in the shower, when I got out I was bleeding.
I went and had my bloodwork but by last night I was heavily bleeding and passing blood clots. I started running a fever and felt terrible, My sweet husband stayed home with me today because he was worried to leave me alone with the boys. Well I was in pain through out the night and into this morning. Well They called me back with my blood work results and said that I was NOT pregnant, She said I never was. I hung up and it hit me that I was really confused. The miscarriage I had in November had been very similar to my experience last night. So I called back and told the nurse about the Two positive test that were two different brands, I told her about the pain and the blood clots, not to mention having all the pregnancy symptoms. She said that if I had miscarried the hormone would still be there but mine was negative. She said that it was a common misconception that you can't get a "false Positive". I asked her if it could have been a chemical pregnancy and she said no, because if I had miscarried at all the hormone would still be there. She said I was free to try again this month and I was not restricted.
Of course after having 3 miscarriages I'm thankful to not have to claim a fourth, but yet I'm still very confused on having TWO positive tests. I'm disappointed as well. Unfortunately I have eaten like crazy this week too, so I think I'll be skipping my weigh-in this week! LOL! What do you think?
Comments:
When an embryo secretes hCG, it is metabolized into the blood first, and takes another day or two to reach the urine. Likewise, when hCG dissipates, it leaves the blood first. So, when a miscarriage occurs, the hormone will linger in the urine for a short while after it is gone from the blood.
So, it is entirely possible for a pregnancy test to detect a pregnancy and turn positive, followed by a negative blood test-- simply because the embryo has produced a small amount of hCG before passing. That small amount is enough to trigger a positive HPT, and small enough to dissipate from the blood stream by the time a blood test is conducted.
Hopefully that helps a little. Good luck in your journey, I know it isn't easy.
I will be praying for you. I had never miscarred before. But I did have a stillborn baby. I had carried it 9months and during my contractions my doctor told me that my baby had not heartbeat. So, Just be encouraged that God will make a way for you. Rest your body and let it heal.
love,
stephanie
