Hi everyone,I just wanted to send out a reminder that today, Friday February 1st, is National Wear Red Day.  Women, companies, organizations, and cities throughout America will be wearing red on Friday, February 1st to create awareness of women and heart disease.  National Wear Red Day is sponsored by the Go Red for Women movement.  The Go Red for Women movement was founded by the American Heart Association to aid in the fight against the number one killer of American women….heart disease. Heart disease kills 32% of American women yearly, six times as many women as breast cancer.  8 million American women are living with heart disease. 10% being women of ages 45-64 and 25% being women age 65 and over.  In comparison with men, while more women will die of heart disease, only 33% of women will receive angioplasties, stents, and bypass surgery.  In heart-related research studies, only one out of four participants is women.  Statistics found on www.womenheart.org .  We need to bring awareness so these numbers change! The symbol of the Go Red movement is the Red Dress.  The Red Dress was introduced in 2002 by The Heart Truth.  The Heart Truth is a national campaign with the goal to give women an urgent wake up call about their risk of heart disease.  It teaches women to make the connection between risk factors such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol and their chances of developing heart disease.  The Red Dress serves as that reminder to make that connection and to protect their heart health.

National Wear Red Day supports the Red Dress as it being the national symbol and the awareness it brings in the fight against heart disease in women.  Everyone can participate in National Wear Red Day by wearing something red.  It could be a dress, a blouse, even red lipstick.  Gentlemen, wear a red tie or red socks to show your support.  Take the time to support this wonderful cause and wear red today!

This is such an important issue moms!  Please vote popular so other moms will know as well.  Thank you!

Feb. 1, 2008 at 6:04 PM Even though the day is almost over, I still hope other moms will see this.  The main message here is we need awareness of heart disease in women.  The best thing we can do for our children is be there for them as long as we can.  One way we can make that possible is by taking care of ourselves!  Take care moms!
