Ami has a terrible chest cold complete with cough and chest congestion. Surprisingly, no real feaver.

I'm thinking about giving him a nebulizer treatment today if his breathing gets worse.

I know the FDA banned cough medicine for infants/toddlers. Can anyone suggest a natural cough remedy?

Steam works really great to break up the can start a hot shower and steam up the bathroom really good, then turn off shower (so you don't have to worry about the little one getting into it!) and bring him into just take a mini steam!

Another thing that works great is putting vapor rub on their feet, I mean really lather it up and then putting socks on.  As they sleep this will keep the vapor stuff close and it does work! (sounds weird I know...) You can also try the vapor bubble bath stuff for a warm bath!

We got Alex a humidifier for his room which helps also...

I did the vapor rub on the feet yesterday. I'll do it again.

I've got his humidifier out.

I used to always use the vapor bath but now he drinks the bath water, so I'm scared to use it. :(

I'm going to do the vapor on the feet again right now.

Thanks so much!

I hope you were able to help Ami get rid of his cough.  Another natural remedy you might try is to add a few drops of Eucalyptus oil in pot of hot water and help Ami inhale the steam. It might be tricky to get your little guy to inhale this steam outside of the shower.  Perhaps the two of you sitting at the table could "play tent" allowing you to drape a towel over both your heads and the bowl.   Another way to get Ami to inhale this steam would be to hang fresh Eucalyptus sprigs from your shower head during a hot shower or bath.  I don't know if it's possible to get fresh Eucalyptus leaves from the health stores in your area at this time.  When these leaves get exposed to hot steam it activates the essential oils in the Eucalyptus plant - makes your bathroom smell delightful as well.

Steam with Eucalyptus oil is suppose to be one of the best natural ways to help get rid of the phlem that needs to get out!

I'm gonna check Trader Joe's tomorrow to see if they have Eucalyptus oil.

I had to start giving him nebulizer treatments last night. His cough is really croupy.

Feb. 7, 2008 at 6:34 PM Update: Ami is back on the pulmicort twice a day and albuterol 4 times a day.  We were hoping we wouldn't have to go back to serious meds.

Feb. 9, 2008 at 12:57 PM I'm sure you're doing whatever you have to do to get him back to health. I hope he's well soon.
