i have a top 3.

1. when baby is sick, & there's nothing you can do besides watch & wait. your heart breaks with every cough.

2. watching them grow so fast & not being able to slow it down. a tear drops every time they hit a new milestone. all you wanna do is press rewind.

3. being polite through all the "you should"s & "babies need"s & all the other crappy advice that everyone shoves down your throat. all along you & your baby seem just fine doing things your way.

any additions?..... vote popular

taking the time to really slow down to watch them grow up is really hard.. before you know it they are all grown up. wait until they tell you mom i have not liked that for years..

or when they keep you up all night when they are sick just to sleep off and on durring the day...

Feb. 2, 2008 at 12:33 AM When they call to share all the bad stuff, but don't think to call to share the good stuff with you...when they elope because their wedding should only be about them, and family shouldn't count. When they resent you wanting to be a part of their lives.

Feb. 2, 2008 at 7:05 AM Accepting that the end goal is truly to raise them to be independent of you.  Trying not to dwell on  those memories of sweet bucolic days where they toddled up to you and said "I wanna hold you mommy" and you picked them up and smelled their hair and kissed their chubby toddler cheek and hugged them tightly, nestling them in your lap where they fit so perfectly.  Then <poof!> They are a foot taller than you and looking at you like you really are clueless and you are saying to them "I wanna hold you....." as they run out the door to their incredibly full schedule of things that don't involve you.  <sigh>  It's not for the faint of heart, this mother thing.

When they are in the hospital because they have been in car accident.. And you have to tell them that their grandmother and aunt have died...  When you have to hug them before they are deployed to Iraq, wondering if thats the last hug you will get from them.....   Knowing that you are raising them and one day they will go out on their own, and start their own family...

Feb. 3, 2008 at 12:35 AM when my son is sick and he gives me those big blue sad eyes... then on the flip side when he is going 90 miles per minute from 7am to 11:30PM.... because he gets cranky and sassy (three years old!) time does fly by so fast!!

Feb. 3, 2008 at 2:24 AM When one day they feel that they are to old to kiss you goodbye or give you a hug and a kiss in front of their friends. When you realize that your baby isn't that baby anymore and will be old enough to have a baby of their own. When they grow from trying to spend all their time with you to not trying to hang out with you very much (usually only on special occasions)

Feb. 3, 2008 at 2:58 AM Letting them make a wrong choice so they become a better person.  I really want to do everything for my kids but I will not always be there when they grow up, so it is very hard for me to let them make their  own choices even if they are wrong.  And it is even harder to just sit back when they realize they made a mistake.
