Ever since we found out my 3 year old son was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis he hardly even talks to me.  I know his heart is breaking as badly as mine is right now but I don't understand the distance he his creating between us when we should need each other the most.  Any ides or advice??

Feb. 1, 2008 at 5:48 PM Honestly, there are a lot of people that just close up when faced with a situation like this.  He may be afraid of the emotions he is experiencing.  If he won't talk to you, and you think you've tried everything, try to get him to a counselor.  You will probably both need to go.  A good counselor can get him to open up and discuss his true feelings.  Don't let it wait until it ruins your feelings for him.  Look for help now.

Feb. 21, 2008 at 10:12 PM I think he's just heartbroken and dealing with it differently than you.  When I'm hurt because of something with the kids, I also take it out on my bf because I just feel like I don't deserve happiness or something.  Like if I'm having fun, than I start to feel guilty.  It's just that nothing could replace that emptiness I guess of knowing what your child is going through, plus you as the parent.  I hope this helps.  It's not you though.

guys feel like they have failed the family when anything goes wrong that they can't fix.  It will take a while, but he will deal with it on his own terms.  You can offer to give info, send him an email link here and there.  Mine really just had to be with himself and celar his concious of any wrongdoing.  It took about a year and a half....well...in some ways he is still dealing (or in denial as he will admit sometimes).  CF changes us all.  Believe it or not, sometimes it is for the better  :-)
