Hi! i am a mom of boys and a mom of two Pit Bull pups one female Jetta who is three and a male Phoniex who is almost one. I have caught alot of flack for raising these dogs with my children because of their known violence and temperament. I have also had people threaten to call child protective services just simply because they are pit bulls,  before even coming into my home or knowing my animals, which play with my children .These dogs are very protective of myself and my three children but never have been vicious to anyone at any time. I was just wondering others opinions on this! Thanks

Feb. 2, 2008 at 12:22 AM Animals like people have personalities. As long as the pitbulls have friendly personalities and you as a mom keep a close eye on your pets and kids, then there really should be no problems. A person (mom, dad, brother, sister, classmate, whatever) can snap and attack a person the same way an animal can. You wouldn't keep your kids away from all people including yourself, would you? A cat can snap and attack a child, should everyone with children get rid of their cats? Heck, I had a neighbor once whose CHIHUAHUA bit off part of her pinky. Should everyone with a chihuahua get rid of that dog breed? It depends on the specific animal and the owners.

Feb. 2, 2008 at 10:12 AM Actually I have read that contrary to popular belief pit bulls are actually very good with kids. Its ok when they are bred do to bad things that they actually do them. But it also depends on the dog. Just like you wouldn't let your kids around aggressive humans don't let them near aggressive dogs. Here is a website so you can read more about their personalities in general  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pit_bull this isn't the one I saw before but there is some good info on this one too.

Feb. 4, 2008 at 9:52 AM I used to raise pit bulls in California and can honestly say that if it is a pure bred and not interbred, that make wonderful pets. I have had up to 17 (overboard) and the only thing they did not get along with was one another. My favorite was a 120 lb. Staffordshire. He was our house dog and my daughters companion until the day he died. I never had to worry when they were in the yard (fenced) as he would lay his life down for her in a flash. He minded all commands. Wonderful animals. It's the people who fight them and breed within the same family that gives these dogs such a bad reputation. As with any dog, you must be a responsible owner.
