Something Wild - Cafemom Edit

Cafe exclusive version of my blog :)

I had posted earlier on Arianna being sick. Well today she woke up with a 101 fever, AGAIN... so I gave her some baby motrin, offered her Similac in a sippy and she was disinterested and just tired. She also had some major congestion and a cough too... I bulbied her nose (all babies hate this) and sent her off to bed.

She slept all day just about... only waking up to eat, maybe try some juice... I fed her in the afternoon some mango baby food mixed with rice cereal and a strawberry fruit and cereal bar and she ate it fine, even had some juice but was just crabbing out, so back to bed after I gave her some baby tylenol (she was due for it.).

She slept till The Boyfriend got home, and when she woke up she was listless, sort of panting, and flushed. Uh-oh.

We took her temp and Arianna's fever skyrocketed to 102.9. Off to the ER we went. By the time we got to the ER and she had a rectal temp taken it was 103.9!

After examining her, removing wax from her ears, and doing Xrays (which made me cry, it looked so awful, and Arianna was so unhappy) she was diagnosed with a double ear infection.

So we have antibiotics (Augmentin), motrin +cold, and tylenol (if needed). Joy.

We go to get them filled, and she coughs so hard that she pukes all over the floor of the waiting area of the pharmacy LOL... poor kid.

The good news is once we got home she was somewhat back to normal, crawling around, chasing and tormenting Jezebel, so that's a really good sign.

Even better... that double shot of Tylenol+Motrin helped. Her fever was at 97.6, last time it was checked about 30 minutes ago. Now to rehydrate her (she was a tiny bit dehydrated) and she should be up and at 'em soon.

FYI, I'm not mad at her primary care doc. Her doc did the best that she could do, she acknowledged Arianna was not well, but we couldn't pinpoint it because Arianna had few visible symptoms of an ear infection. (Except she was rubbing her ears like a week ago and then stopped... but wasn't in visible pain. This isn't the first time though that she presents an illness wierdly... she had a bladder infection at 2 months that presented with fever and vomiting...)

Thanks again for the well wishes for Arianna. I'll let you know how things progress. :)

Feb. 2, 2008 at 1:16 AM Sorry to hear this! Ear infections are something that we have had to deal with, with matthew. I feel for her! I hope she feels better soon!
