My name is Brenda and I am the single mother of  a little girl with down syndrome.  I was not married to her father, but was living with him up until one week before my daughter was born.  My daughter was taken by emergency c-section on Christmas Eve 2006.  She was diagnosed with down syndrome at that time, plus I was told of her heart defect.  She couldn't breathe on her own, so she was flown to Children's hospital over a 100 miles away that night.  I wasn't released until two days later, and couldn't be with her until the following day.  I finally got to hold my baby when she was 4 days old.  Do to complications from the c-section, I couldn't stay with her.  My daughter spent 4 and half months in two hospitals before finally getting her heart surgery and coming home.  She came home in May of 2007......the happiest day of my life!  She spent the first 10 months of her life on a feeding tube, but now no longer requires it.  Today, my little angel is a happy, active 1 year old......the joy of my life!!
