My son is 16 months and used to eat really well.  For at least a month now, he doesn't want to eat breakfast.  He wont let me feed him because he is Mr. Independent and has to do it himself.  For a while he would only eat french toast, bananas or any kind of fruit, cinnamon toast, sausage or a nutragrain breakfast bar.  Now....  he just picks at anything I give him except for the fruit.  I've tried eggs with and without sausage in them...  he just picks out the sausage...  I'm at a loss because I'm not a big breakfast eater myself... so, I'm out of ideas....  Does anyone else have a kid like this???  I know he's not starving himself because he'll eat lunch and drink his milk in the morning.  It just kills me that he wont eat anything in the AM.  Can he just eat fruit if that's all he'll eat?  It doesn't seem like much...  Any suggestions???

Feb. 2, 2008 at 8:13 AM Let him just have fruit in the morning. Its only a phase and a test of wills. Plus fruit is good for him so its really not hurting anything.  Eating only fruit will get old to him and he will start eating other things again.

Feb. 2, 2008 at 8:15 AM Oh yea...  been there, done that lol.. Some kids just don't want breakfast...  Their bodies are in conflict with their minds... They want what they want, and that's all there is to it.  Try giving him some cereal without milk... a finger food... possibly something without sugar.... Raisins are a great source of nutrients too... You could also try Toast with a little molasses on it... Molasses is LOADED with all kinds of vitamins and minerals...  Best wishes!!!  (((HUGS)))

Feb. 2, 2008 at 8:30 AM I've started with the Instant Carnation Breakfast stuff in CJ's milk.  He loves it and he gets the vitamins, protein, etc.  I asked his pediatrician about it, and he told me to go for it.

Gabriella is g oing through this stage with every meal. She will only eat fruits and veggies. Never any meat or much of anything else. The doctor told us to keep trying, but not to force it on her. She will eventually grow out of this phase and if she doesnt eat one meal, she will be much more hungry for the next meal. Good luck, it looks like a lot of kids go through this!

Hey Jamie,

Zach is also going through this phase but ours is dinner time. Just keep putting small amounts in front of him and keep giving him the fruits. He should eventually grow out of it. I am finding that if I just give him the food and not say anything to him about it, he will eat more than if I tell him to eat.  Give little man hugs and kisses.

Feb. 3, 2008 at 4:43 PM You get Leo to eat more than I can get Tyler to eat!  All Tyler will do is pancakes, Eggos, oatmeal or blueberry muffins.  Other than that, no eggs or anything like that!  He will eat a couple fruits, but not much!  Some kids are just extremely picky from what I've been told!  Hopefully they will get over it, you know?!?!  Good luck!
