My baby has a tendancy to spit up alot after she eats! She is 4 wks old and if we lay her down within 2 hrs of eatting she sounds like she is trying to clear her throat, she will cry and then spit up, it even comes out of her nose! We go to the Dr for shots on monday and I was gonna mention it but has anyone ever had this with their babies?? we purchased one of those wedges to lay her on and that doesnt help either! Even in her bouncy seat she does this??

Feb. 2, 2008 at 11:24 AM We experienced something similar.  Emily, from birth, spit up or projectile vomitted after almost every feeding.  It was a digestive thing that the doctors couldn't really explain other than to say her digestive tract wasn't fully matured which caused her to spit up a lot of the milk rather than digesting it.  It was very similar to acid reflux.  Our diagnosis: she'll grow out of it once her digestive tract sufficiently matures.  But that was after they suggested we try ever formula on the market to rule out an adversity to the milk.  I'd definitely mention it to the doctor.  They'll most likely say that all babies spit up a certain amount and it is normal.  That was out first response but I explained to them that I knew the difference from the occasional spit up versus the repeated, regular spit up and also the severe vomitting.

I started out breastfeeding.  They had me switch to formula thinking it was my milk but she had the same reaction to every formula on the market.  We finally found one, of course the most expensive, that she tended to spit back up less often--we were spending about $350+ per month just on formula. Not to mention the wee hours of the night cleaning up the mess after each feeding. It was exhausting.  We were so relieved when she finally outgrew it which was right about the time she went to whole milk.

I can say that no, at age 6, she is one of the best "eaters" I've seen and has been since she started on solid foods, no problems, excellent health.  It was a rocky start but it is only  a memory now.  Who knows, maybe they've come up with something to help since then, it's been 5-6 yrs.  Hopefully, in your case, it won't be so drastic as it was in ours.  I'll be curious to know what the doctors say.

Feb. 9, 2008 at 2:50 PM Update!!  I did ask the Dr and he put her on Zantac he aggreed that it was acid reflux!  NOT only did we get that but I came down with the stomach virus going around!! God I hope no one has to suffer through that.  My hubby stayed home to take care of Isabella so I wouldn't get her sick, could you amagine a  1month old with that???  I am 100% better and back to my old self!!!
