OMG! My dh and I bought my daughter her 1st cell phone at which her and i share the minutes. Well it has only been 2 weeks into the billing cycle and she has already ran up the minutes to leaving 10 minutes to spare.  We had the 1400 minute plan. Given we have taken the phone away but I havent been able to use my cell either now. It is frustrating. I cannot imagine in her 1st month that she would already show us how unprepared she is for having one. But we have a 2 yr contract so we are stuck. It completeld sucks b/c I have ppl calling me and for the past 2 wks it has been turned off b/c mrs queen bee to her daddy takes priority for using the cell first. So if any of you have tried calling my verizon cell pls call my cingular cell instead at which I have an abundance of minutes left. I just liked using my new phone. LOL.

Feb. 2, 2008 at 12:45 PM Buy her a prepaid cell where she has to add the minutes herself and if you go over, there is no phone.

Feb. 2, 2008 at 1:09 PM If you ever decide to give the phone back, most phones have a feature on them where you can set it to only call 3 "emergency numbers"  (well, 3 numbers PLUS 911).  This is what we did with my kids.  We put in the 3 numbers that they could call and then we restricted ALL incoming and outgoing calls.  Although the phone says "Restricted" across the top, they can still call those numbers (and our kids only have numbers that are free to call--- such as our numbers and a few other numbers on our phone plan).  If you need more than 3 numbers, then they are allowed to call and receive calls from ANY number in the contact list.   If you need help on how to do this, send me a PM.

Feb. 2, 2008 at 5:54 PM This happens alot when teens first get phones. This same thing just happened to my aunt. It sucks bad. This is why when my kids get that age and ready for a phone they will get prepaid phones. LOL.

OMG! It must be a girl thing! Yah, I'm planning on getting my oldest a cell phone but only the prepaid minutes and if he uses up the minutes then he'll just have to wait until it's time for us to refill! We're only going to refill at certain times. Good luck with keeping your minutes....

Feb. 3, 2008 at 11:38 AM I agree with buying her a prepaid phone.  THat will teach her to stretch her mins.  GIve her so much on her phone a month and leave it at that, if she uses it all up , OH well.  THat is what i do to my neice she managed to use up all her mins in the first couple of days within getting it.  UGh!!  Whats so important these kids gotta talk about?  That is my question.  Good Luck!

Feb. 6, 2008 at 1:15 PM What do they talk about?  There are plans you can get where you can monitor their use and only let them use a certain amount of minutes per day.  My brother helped his friend set her daughter's phone up like that.  I don't know how, but it seems like a good idea!
