How It Happened...Dark.

I just have to warn that this is a dark subject. It's not light or fun or anything, but it's something that I've been wondering, and anyone who knows, I'd like the input...It has to do with Avery's death and how it happened...so before reading think about if you want to read it or not.

When I found Avery, his feet were on the ground. Not on tip-toes, he was like, sideways on the ground...so, I'm wondering if that's how people do it? They put it around their neck, lean on it until they pass out? I always thought of it as kicking a chair out from under you, but that's not how it was with Avery...and I wonder if people do it like Avery did. He had alcohol in his system, and who knows what else, so I'm sure he passed out from it faster than if he didn't have anything, but I mean...I don't know how anyone WOULD know this, but it just really has been bothering me...he could have stopped it if he wanted to, unless he passed out first...I'm just so confused....

Feb. 2, 2008 at 1:47 PM I am so sorry. That is odd, I too always thought off jumping from a chair with the feet not touching the floor. Either way it was and is a tragedy. He was taken too soon.

First let me say how sorry I am for your loss.  I have been reading your posts, and it seems like you are a very strong lady.  I think about you and your sons often.  I don't know about the feet on the floor.  In all likelihood you are right, he had too much alcohol/drugs in his system to even realize what he was really doing.  I am so sorry, again.

Feb. 4, 2008 at 1:41 PM It is actually quite common for people to just lean forward and not actually "hang".  Because of movies, books and TV we usually picture someone hanging from a height and kicking out a chair.  Really any pressure on your carotid arteries will cut off oxygen to the brain.  I think maybe what you are getting at is that the method would allow someone to change their mind and stop themselves vs. the kick out the chair method.  I can't really answer that.  I'm sure alcohol and drugs play a huge factor in that.

Feb. 10, 2008 at 5:22 PM yes, that is how my high school friend did it, a belt in his closet, on his knees.  He could have stopped it.  I think the alcohol made him pass out. ryans was int he middle of a sunday, no alcohol.  I am sorry, try and not think so much of it?

Feb. 23, 2008 at 9:42 PM I really think we have more in common than u think. My son's father was found sitting on the floor with speaker wire around his neck, tied to the door knob. they said he had the wire twisted around his neck making it tighter and tighter. he was 6ft 2in tall so the first thought was no way this was suicide. but what else was it. he too had been drinking and on pills, so the question is did he pass out or do it? i have been wondering the same thing for so long. i hope u decided to check out my profile i think we could really help each other out.     im thinkin of u and ur boys.  melissa
