my one year old son, when the tv goes on for my friends' kids -elmo, sesame street, any number of musical disney movies, shelly duvall's fairytale theater, etc- you can almost see him roll his eyes in boredom, and intensely plays with various toys, or a book. you can call any child's name, and none will look up from what they are doing. two of them on the tv, mine with some blocks.

one might find this to be a good thing. but there's a catch.

he LOVES south park. has been watching the rocky horror picture show intently for the last hour, and has struck up some kind of love affair with tenacious d.

it goes to show, that which you play over and over again while pregant, they will surely enjoy as children.

consequently, if throw on moulin rouge, phantom of the opera, sound of music, he will calm, but not necessarily sit entranced.

no we do not have cable. and no,i do not sit him down in front of the telly. but i do watch movies, and tv by dvd.

My child is also picky about what he watches (though it mostly revolves around 80s cartoons like Hong Kong Phooey and Scooby Doo) and he repeats most of it.  While I am estatic that he would rather play with a book or toys, you might be a tad careful about what he watched - just from the sheer "repetition" children will ultimately produce.  I would hate for his first words to be "F*** you Kyle!" or the "My Mom is a B****" song!  LOL!  Have a great day reading with him!

P.S. - that is a beautiful and fun picture of the two of you!
