So, as some of you know, my dog has been coughing and hacking for about 2 weeks now. He did have diarrhea and that stopped within a day. I took him to the vet when he had huge bouts of diarrhea and was vomiting that same day and of course, while there all day, he didn't do either so they sent him home with meds.

Well, Cameron (my dog) has continued to cough, even on meds, and has been keeping me up all night. I swear, it's like having a newborn again only you have nothing to look forward to! He's 11 years old in March and is a beagle, so his life span is supposidly 13 years.

When you don't get sleep and you have a VERY VERY VERY co-dependent dog following you around coughing and hacking on your freshly professionally cleaned carpet, it gets ANNOYING!!!!!!!! I mean, I love the dog and I've had him since he was 6 weeks (which explains the co-dependency part) but this lack of sleep for me and his hacking/coughing thing is getting tiresome. Now that Jake is starting to scoot and hopefully he will crawl, I don't want him coming across dog feces or vomit! ya know?

So, this morning, he got me up at 5:45 to go outside and he went to the bathroom and coughed the whole way back. While I was waiting there in the kitchen for his return, I just broke down and cried and cried and cried. I cried for him and I cried b/c I'm so tired and so over it! My left arm went numb and I had to take a deep breath to try to relax. Well, in order for the house to get some sleep, I had to put him in the laundry room. We heard him coughing away and I just decided to get up.

So, I cleaned up the place b/c we're having out of town guests over tomorrow and some other friends for the super bowl and Cameron was not doing good at all. He was walking slowly and just looking sad in the eyes. I got in the shower, and when I got out, he was lying there in the bathroom floor and he's NEVER done that.

When we got in the car, Cameron usually just jumps in and away we go - HE LOVES TO RIDE! Well, when he tried to get in, he fell out and just kind of sat there by the door. OH MY GOSH! That was horrible to witness.

Here's where I'm sad and stressed out. I felt that I had to take him in for my sanity and for his health. I didn't make it there until 12 and they closed at 12:30 and are closed on Sunday's. Well, my husband gets home and I tell him all about it and he said, I hope Cameron's last days aren't in the vet sick and by himself! I MEAN! I feel HORRIBLE now!!! What if this is his last couple of days and he's stuck in that vet by himself!?!? I know there are people stopping by there tomorrow, but they won't be there all day!!!!! UGH! I feel like crap!

I am sure that they will take good care of him. Just pray for him and take this time to get yourself rested. Hugs to you.

Feb. 2, 2008 at 11:15 PM That brought a tear to my eyes. I have 2 dogs that are both a pain sometimes ( leaving a fur coat for Harley to roll around in and aquire)and letting them out at beck and call. But i really dont think that i could see either of them suffer. It would tear me apart to now that there life is nearing the end... I would also feal that i would have a responablity to do what ever i  can to make sure that they would not suffer .  I am truly sorry that you have to go through that. It is never easy.  Honestly it is bringing tears to my eyes.........
