Has anyone traveled recently with a 10 month old or a little one?  I am going on a 5 hour flight in a couple weeks with my DD and a bit of a nervous wreck about it.  Not sure at all how she will react to being on the plane.  How do I keep her busy in that small space for that long? Any ideas?  Anything I should know about flying now, things I can or can't bring for the baby with all the new regs?  Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks so much!

Feb. 2, 2008 at 9:51 PM Make sure she has a binkie, bottle or sippie cup for when the plane is taking off and landing that way her ears are ok.  I have been on a plane twice with my Daughter but it was only an hour flight.   Do you get to preboard?  If you do I would suggest getting the very first seat because it has a little more let room and that way if she needs to get down for a little theres at least a tiny bit of room also when people get on they usually keep walking not wanting to sit next to the baby which was always fine with me.   I take a baggie of different foods such as gold fish and puffs to keep her busy for a while. Other than that I'm not too sure.  Is she into books or anything?  I would just try and take stuff thats small enough to fit in your bag and keep her occupied.  Hopefully you'll get lucky and she'll sleep for awhile.  People have to be understanding when you have a little one ya know?

Feb. 2, 2008 at 11:39 PM When I flew when my kids were babies, they both slept the whole time, which was 4 hours.  I held off on their bottles until take off so they could pop their ears when they swallowed, they fell asleep and the constant noise of the plane kept them asleep until we landed...I was so nervous and worried about it, but it really turned out to be no big deal.  The attendants are (usually) very helpful and the passengers are ( again, usually) very accomodating and understanding.  I would take some snacks and get a few new cheap toys, and give them to her one at a time as she gets antsy.  I also had a DVD player and brought a Baby Einstein movie...we never had to use it, but that could be a last resort thing...Good luck!

Feb. 2, 2008 at 11:42 PM oh another thing...if she has her own seat I would bring her regular car seat...when I last flew with my daughter she was 2 1/2 and technically didn't need a car seat in the plane.  I took it anyway, because she knew that when she was in that seat she had to stay there, I thought if she was just in the seat next to me that she would want to get down and walk around.  My son was almost a year though, and we just held him, which was just as easy since he slept.
