I'm really worried about my baby girl Hailynn, she is almost 8 month old and only weighs 13lbs 4 oz.. she has had this cough since November.. I went to the doctor and she said keep her elevated and put vaporizer rub on her, and sometimes she has this rattling sound when she breathes. She is usually a good eater drinks 6 oz of formula 5 times a day and baby food, yet it seems she is not gaining weight like she should, and the past couple of days she has lost her appetite only drink 2 to 3 oz of formula every 4 hrs and a couple of baby spoonfuls of baby-food, every-time i try to give her medicine from a medicine dropper she spits it back up.. I have a doctors apt Monday but i wonder if i should take her to the ER before then :(. but the ER doctors are mean and unprofessional.. they will tell you anything to get you out of there.. like for instance telling me my son just has a cold and tells me to give him petalite.. and they tell me this every-time i go in there.. and then go to my doctor and she tells me something completely different.. like for instance Bronchitis or Strep Throat.. which he has had.. and I'm afraid they are going to do this to her.

Feb. 3, 2008 at 2:48 AM I voted to wait and take her to the doc 1. They know her and her history and you will most likely get more information from them 2. I wouldn't go to the ER unless she was having trouble breathing but that is just me. I am a worry wart though so I guess it would depend on how she is acting, feeling, ect. As far as her weight. Is she taller? Some babies don't put on alot of weight but they seem to be a bit taller. I would definitely talk to your doctor about it. My son is 3 months and weighs 16lbs already. Since she is decreasing her feedings, that seems to be a cause for concern. I hope this helps a bit and I hope your baby gets better soon.

Feb. 3, 2008 at 5:18 AM YOU SHOULDNT TAKE AN EIGHT MONTH OLD TO THE ER AT ALL UNLESS SHE IS DYING. THEY ARE GONNA STICK A NEEDLE IN HER. THEY SENT ME FOR A SPINAL TAP ON A FIVE MONTH OLD. SO NO WAY!! BUT MY DAUGHTER IS EIGHT MONTHS AND SHE WEIGHS LIKE 8 OUNCES MORE THAN THAT AND PERFECTLY HEALTHY!! QUESTION??-- COULD SHE POSSIBLY BE TEETHING?? THAT IS WHAT IT SOUNDS LIKE.

Feb. 3, 2008 at 8:23 AM I'm sorry to hear that your little one is sick. If you can wait for the doctor appointment then wait, if not then you can take her to urgent care or the er to kind of put your mind at ease a bit . Some insurance companies offer 24 hour nurse advice hotlines. My daughter was always sick when she was smaller and she was a skinny baby, she is 3 now and is doing better thank goodness. As long as your baby is still eating something then I wouldn't worry too much. As far  as the medicine goes try giving her the medicine and blow in her face (lightly), that will cause her too swallow- that always worked for me..otherwise I end up getting the medicine on me;). I work at a daycare so i'm around a lot of germ bugs. There is a good possibility that she may be teething- that causes loss of appetite and extra saliva too that can lead to the coughing. I hope that the advices will help you and  I hope that your little one will feel better soon!!
