On Tuesday he didnt feel good, a slight cough, took him to the doc, she says

 He has a  ear infection

Ok , she gives Amoxicilian , 2 teaspoons three times a day

We do that till Wednesday , then the cough starts getting worse ( my kids do wheeze they have cold ( as in sickness ) induced astmha)

Soooooooo On Friday he SEEMS better and he wants to go to school cause he is missing a lot of tests and work, I let him .

 I then get 'the call"

He is running 103 fever !

I go get him., bring him back, the doc ( different one , the one I like actually ) takes his blood

He says , his hemoglobin is low, everything else is normal , ( COULD be because he is sick )

so anyway puts him on a stronger Anti

I never even heard of this one.

NOW he is three days on this one , and STILL running a fever

It was 103 up till last night , this morning it was 101.3

I have NEVER seen this happen , my kids usually take the antibiotic and in a couple days the fever is gone !   He is very active , eating , coughing a lot still though .

Anyones kids ever had a fever this long even on antibiotics for this long ??

No other syptoms , cough and fever , no swollen glands none of that !

 WHAT IS THIS??!!!!!

Feb. 3, 2008 at 10:48 AM It could be that he has a different type of bacteria than what the antibiotic will treat. Not all bacterias are the same. What antibiotic is he on? I was sick for three weeks and they changed my antibiotic twice during this time. If it is a viral issue then there isn't an antibiotic that will treat. I hope he gets well soon or you at least find out whats going on. Best wishes.

Feb. 3, 2008 at 11:01 AM Hmmm.,,.maybe a virus and not bacterial? Then the antibiotics would not help... Hmmm..did they test for mono?

Feb. 3, 2008 at 11:08 AM Ummm Could be Mono ummm I would prob take him to the doc again re do the blood work and re check everything just to be sure. yeah its not that uncommon to have a fever last a week or so. Try to make sure he can breath okay my son has viral induced asthma. Other than that like i said check back with the doc on Monday. If anything changes suddenly take him to the ER. I hope this helps.

My now 7 year old used to do that. Still does sometimes. But she would also just start running a fever for @ two days but not be sick. When she was sick she would run a fever for a week sometimes. She also has the asthma that acts up when she is sick. I would take him back Monday if he is still running a fever. She would also always get a secondary infection somewhere. How were his ears the second time you went?

Hope he feels better really soon.
