My daughter just turned 12mths. on Jan. 18. Shes been bf since day one. So im trying to get her to drink regular milk. She dosent like it. So im going to see if letting her drink half my milk and half cows millk. We all drink 1% at the house so I was thinking introducing her with 1% milk. I figured since shes still bf and eatsa lots of regular food she getting all that she needs from what she will be getting from regular milk. What do you girls think? Would I be depriving her of important nutrients?

Typically they are supposed to have whole milk because they need the nutrients & fat that is in the whole milk. But we mix whole & 1% because whole milk constipates Zack and mixing helps for him. =)

Babies really need the fat in whole milk during that second year of life. It helps with eye and brain development, so I would not puther on the 1% milk if you don't have to. I would mix it with your milk and then slowly put more cow's milk and less BM in it until she is used to it.

Well I haven't started the process yet of introducting milk, but from what I've read on other posts, if she doesn't like the whole milk, you could try 2% but I think 1% lacks more nutrients (granted so does the 2% but not as much). Another thing I've read is people that put flavor in the milk like strawberry or chocolate, only problem with that is the added sugar. But it works for some people. Go to the breastfeeding group and search the posts for like "whole milk "and you can read other people's suggestions.

Try adding just a bit of Karo syrup to the whole milk, then it will taste sweet

My pediatrcian says that babys need the fat and nutrients from whole milk and not to introduce 1% or any other milk to them until after their 2nd birthday!!
