Tornados hit just a couple miles from my house! Wiped out the whole east side of town!

I was at Wal-mart when the tornado hit town, I had already payed for my stuff and was about to head out the door, when cops showed up and told everyone to head for the hallway in the store. It must have hit town around then, so after a little while, they said we could go. I had no idea that half our damn town was gone! Anyway, I drove up the mountain towards home, and right into the aftermath of a tornado ripping through the road we live off of! I was driving through power lines and trees everywhere! I was so scared! Just praying my house would be there when I got home and that my family was alright. Well, I got home and it was fine. Joe had our kids and our neighboor under the house. The said they heard it hit Luber, when I told them what I had just driven through. We still had no idea that town had been hit until the next morning. It is horrible! The hospital, car dealership, doctors offices, storage units, tons of houses...The pictures just don't do it justice. Tornados hit all over the place in our area! So much destruction, it's unbelievable! The girls and I are going to be documenting the damage and rebuiding. I'm making this a whole unit study on tornados. I have to go now, we are running off a generator at the moment. Power is out all over this area. They are saying sometime Sunday hopefully in town, so it could be even longer for us.

Feb. 8, 2008 at 11:52 AM again, i am so glad you and your family are ok!  It didnt hit us here in central AR but the sirens went off and we got in the hallway w/ a mattress over us...scary! I can only imagine how scarted you were being seperated from the kids during the storm!! OMG   MAking a school lesson out of this is such a good idea-hands on experience wow
