A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO I FOUND OUT THAT MY OLDEST DAUGHTER HAD SKIPPED A WEEK OF SCHOOL. I WAS VERY SURPRISED AND SHOCKED BECAUSE SHE PLAYED THIS CHARADE WITH ME FOR A WEEK CALLING ME AND TELLING ME THAT SHE WAS LEAVING AND I TOLD HER TO LOCK THE DOOR AND THAT I LOVED HER. WELL MY HUSBAND CALL ME WHEN I WAS ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK TO TELL ME THAT HE GOT A PHONE CALL FROM SCHOOL TELLING HIM THAT SHE HAD NOT BEEN IN A WEEK. NEEDLESS TO SAY I WAS VERY ANGRY AND VERY HURT. I EVEN DROVE A LITTLE SLOWER BECAUSE I KNEW THAT I NEEDED TO CALM DOWN BEFORE  I GOT HOME. WHEN I GOT HOME SHE HAD ALREADY BEEN CRYING FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES AND I WAS STILL SO ANGRY, YOU SEE THIS WHOLE TIME I HAVE BEEN PLANNING A SURPRISE BIRTHDAY PARTY FOR HER SHE WILL BE 17 ON MARCH 15TH SO I FELT REALLY HURT. WELL AFTER COOLING OFF SHE TELLS ME THAT SHE HAD NOT BEEN TO SCHOOL BECAUSE OF  A BULLY NAMED ERICA THIS CHILD HAS BEEN HARRASSING MY BABY FOR ALMOST 2 MONTHS. SHE HAS BEEN CALLING HER NAMES SHE PUT GUM IN HER HAIR BECAUSE MY BABY HAS LONG BLACK BEAUTIFUL HAIR. SHE TOLD ME THAT SHE FELL ASLEEP WITH GUM IN HER MOUTH AND THATS WHY I HAD TO CUT IT OUT. WELL IT FINALLY ESCALATED TO THE POINT WHERE SHE PUSHED MY DAUGHTER INTO A BATHROOM STALL AND PUT HER HANDS AROUND HER NECK. MY GOD I DID NOT REALIZE THAT THIS KIND OF THING STILL WENT ON. I MEAN YOU THINK YOU CAN PROTECT YOUR CHILDREN FROM ILLNESS FROM RUNNING IN THE STREET FROM TOO MUCH CANDY . AND ESPECIALLY FROM SOMEONE HURTING THEM. WELL ON THE NEXT DAY MYSELF , MY HUSBAND AND STEPHANIE WENT TO THE SCHOOL AND YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE THE PRINCIPAL COULD NOT GET THIS CHILDS PARENTS TO COME IN THEY SAID THAT THEY ARE TOO BUSY AND THAT GIRLS WILL BE GIRLS. TO MY AMAZEMENT HE WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING ELSE OTHER THAN SUSPEND HER FOR A WEEK. I MEAN WHAT IS THAT GONNA DO , MAKE HER EVEN ANGRIER AND LET IT BUILD UP AND SHE REALLY HURT MY BABY. I MEAN THAT JUST SCARES ME TO DEATH. WHAT DO I DO . I KNOW WHERE THIS CHILD LIVES DO I NEED TO CONFRONT THEM OR WHAT I NEED HELP LADIES CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME.

This is a rough one I went through a very similar situation when i was in junior high, I would have done anything for my parents to relocate or home school me but they wouldnt.  I feared for my life daily and finally the police and what not had to be brought in and I ended up having to leave school for 2 weeks due to the mess and whatnot.  Needless to say I mean you shouldnt have to do this but ask your daughter if she would rather do her lessons at home if no one at the school will help you.  Its better then having your kid fear school and just ditching school because of the problems.  Iwish you the best let me know what you end up deciding

Outrageous! I am sorry she is having to deal with this...she has been assaulted and you should file charges, in addition you should get a restraining order against the bully. Additionally, there may be a way for her to make up missed work due to the reason she was absent. And, I would get her into see her counselor (who hopefully has more concern than the Principal). Good Luck!

Regarding transfer of students:

  • HB 283 (Hope) - This bill would define bullying as engaging in written or verbal expression or physical contact that the student knows or reasonably believes will cause significant emotional distress to another student, that causes significant emotional distress to another student, and that would cause significant emotional distress to a reasonable person under the same circumstances. This bill would also require a school board, upon request of a parent or other person authorized to act on behalf of a student who is a victim of bullying, to transfer the victim to another classroom or another campus in the district. Prior to transfer, the board would be required to verify that the student was the victim of bullying. http://eqfed.org/campaign/eliminate_bullying

Mar. 26, 2008 at 1:25 PM I know i am late replying but i would love to know what happened, and what you decided to do. I would have spoke to Erica's parents and then talked to the school board, if that didnt work and it was ok with your daughter i would re locate her, but you would hate to take her away from her friends exspecially when she is almost graduating. Let me know what happened
