I am seriously looking at a career change and my #1 choice is going to school for Esthetics.  I have a million things running through my mind.  Am I too old?  Can I handle the added hours of school  on top of working full time, running a house, taking care of kids?  I am not getting much support for DH and have to find my own sitters etc. which make things more difficult.   There has been arguement after arguement over this.   At one point I was ready to give up but then I realized if I do I will regret my descision and will even hold some resentment towards him.

I would love feedback from Estheticians regarding their career choice....good and bad feedback welcome!

I loved being an aesthetician.  I miss it.  There are negatives to it.  #1 bikini waxes.  After awhile it is not a big deal, but in the beginning telling someone to trim their jungle before you can wax them is a little weird.  Oh and you haven't lived until you give a woman a Brazilian.  LOL  Extraction.  This is another thing that takes time to get used to.  Extracting some ones pimple is well, yucky.  But again, it is part of a facial.  By the end of school you take great pride in giving the best facial possible.  Truly, it is a wonderful feeling making a woman feel beautiful.  You can also use the education to work for skin care companies.  Find a course that includes microdermabrasion.  This is the money maker.  Each client should be scheduled for 6 treatments at 100-400 a pop.  (More or less depending on your area)  Expect to invest $10,000 on equipment and advertising, most salons do not provide everything.  However, you can quickly recoup this.  The money is there if you are good at what you do.

Oh and as for working and going to school...I went to school 5 days a week from 8-3.  It was a pain, but I managed to work a swing shift at Linens n'Things.  It can be done but you have to want it.  Most states require you to have 650-900 hrs of school.  Except FL which only requires like 200!
