Funny story- but true- Well it's funny now anyway.

I have a job that allows me to set my  own hours within reason and my family never knows from day  to day what I will decide to work.  I may start out working from home and not go into the office until noon.  (I know, great boss, huh) That's the background info you need to know-

So about 2 years ago my son, a Junior in HS called me to say that he had fallen asleep in class and wasn't feeling well. I told him I would check him out if he needed to come home.  "No, I just wanted you to know in case the school called or I got to feeling worse."
Well I had planned to leave about that time to go in to the office- but I got distracted by Jentzen Franklin on TBN- and sat down to watch his message.  Well before I knew it the Holy Spirit was really ministering to me and I was really glad that I had delayed.  Then the phone rang again, my cell this time-Son again.  Wanted to let me know he was feeling better- It was probably about 11 a.m.- I didn't pay much attention to that, feeling blessed and knowing I really needed to head into work.  I eventually left but there was this nagging from the Holy Spirit ( son may have called another time - I don't remember).  I headed to work and the feeling would not leave me alone- I felt the words in my spirit- turn back.  But I argued.  Yes I argued with the Holy Spirit- that's one of my issues we are dealing with.  So I talked to the Lord and made a compromise- yes you heard me- a compromise-I will just drive by the school and look for his truck- it was on the way to the office.
His truck would be easy to spot- red with at least 1 orange parking cone sticking out of the bed- It was not there.  Now, I am thinking- okay I hear what you are telling me Lord, but let me just check something out.  Benefit of the doubt, innocent until proven guilty and all that.  I go into the school and check with the attendance office- Nope, he didn't check out to go home sick, in fact he was reported absent but they had not made the phone call yet notifying us. (They LM on the home numbers when your child is absent).  I thanked them and explained that he had contacted me saying he wasn't feeling well so I would follow up at home....
Walking out that door I had to have that conversation with the Father, the one you dread.  "I'm sorry Father.  I know if I would just follow your prompting and direction my life would be so much easier.  Please forgive me and help me to not kill my son."
When I arrive back home- his truck is in the driveway- and the front door open-Well, I'm trusting he must be sick, he didn't even shut the door. Uh-huh.  I walk in to a dark house and can't see people- but do see a head pop up on my living room couch- and then another! But that's not the sillhoute of my sons's head- I walked right past and to his bedroom where the door opened before I could get to it.

He did try to bluster his way through it- yes he wasn't feeling well, he came home- he let his friend and GF come with him ( He doesn't think fast or well under pressure- a gift from God I've always said).

This time I listened to the Holy Spirit and asked the right questions- and his GF came out of the bedroom closet.

The phone calls from him came whenever he tried to come to the house and I would still be there.  The BF father had seen my sons's truck parked at the church and thought - no it couldn't be- little knowing that his son was there with mine waiting me out.  I did miss the girls' car parked in the cul-de-sac- but didn't let them know that.  They had to make their own way back to school and sign in late and deal with the consequences- I went to work and contacted the BF mother- the whole school knew they had been caught and I learned a valuable lesson.

When the Holy Spirit speaks- LISTEN!
I did the next time- but that's another story.....

Mar. 19, 2008 at 12:04 AM The issue has come up many times lately for my family and I keep telling them the Holy Spirit is there for a reason and the verse says He gives you the will to do.God places in your heart. taking the things in your mind through Him will guide you.
