I've noticed something very strange lately. I don't know if this couple is crazy, or just constructive. Either way, I am beginning to worry.

Our duplex backs up to a small open field with a huge nest of cedar trees behind it. Our yard slopes down towards the back fence so I am able to see over it pretty well.  On Tuesday I noticed a guy back there gathering long branches and other tree parts. I assumed they were clearing the field.  Next thing I know there is a fort-like structure about 15 yards from my fence.

Fast forward to Thursday, yesterday.  I walk out back and see, through the fence, a man and woman gathering more debris. They are hacking away at the wood as it they're chipping the ends to make a point. wtf? Do you really need fine tuning to build a fort?

The woman, wearing red, stops in her tracks and peers through my fence....like I can't see her....IN RED! How festive for Valentine's Day. hmmmm. I can't really determine the age of the couple. I could swear the man was older, around my age. Which is the concerning part. If it were 15 year old kids I'd give them props for engineering their own paintball course. However, they aren't.

Curiousity got the best of me and I had to find out  what the hell they were doing. I grabbed a chair early this AM and ran out to the fence to take a peek.  There's a main fort that actually has a blow-up mattress attached to it. This structure consists of 25-30 limbs, roughly. There are 2 additional forts or bunker-like structures. It looks somewhat "shielded" so someone could actually hide behind it. Both incorporating additional metal materials.

I thought it was cool at first. But, these guys seem extremely dedicated to reaching their goal, whatever it might be.  They were going at it for hours yesterday. My hubby and I finally decided it might be best to contact police. However, we had a hot date with reservations at a nice restaurant we couldn't cancel. So, today I sit and wait for their return so I can notify proper authorities. Am I being too paranoid? Would you call the cops?

they were actively collecting branches when they spotted me and peered through the fence. they went about their business while i stood there, enjoying my cancer-stick... like they weren't doing anything wrong.

Feb. 15, 2008 at 10:55 AM I would call the police.  It sounds to me like they are trespassing. If they're homeless, I'd be unfortable with having what could be attracted there, so close to my home.

hahahahahahaha

we have a new neighbor that i'm really curious about. the first thing he did was put barb wire everywhere. i think he's just a minimalist that doesn't want company. he's living in a hunting cabin and i don't think it has power or water. this week he put up a sign that says 'mis paridiso simplico' or something like that. my simple paradise?? totally a guess since i know very little spanish.

if he were creepy like your neighbors sound i'd probably notify authorities too and at least have someone check into it. i think you become a little paranoid when you have little ones you want to protect. thankfully our neighbor just seems like a loner.
