Paul found Kalten's SS card, thanks for all your help!
Update - Well, I got the number, which is the important thing. Now we can file our taxes. I wasn't able to apply for another card because I didn't have any other form of ID for him. The paper she gave me said they'd take daycare records - he goes to my mom's for daycare so she has all the paperwork for that since she is a licensed daycare facility.
I can' t find my son's social security card. It's not where I was sure I put it. I need it so we can file our taxes.
I am trying to apply for a replacement. I have form SS-5. Item 11 on the form says to enter the social security number of the person the card is for. Unfortunately I don't know it. I never thought to write it down. If I knew it, we could just do our taxes and find the card later.
I called the number to see if I needed that on the form or if I could leave it blank. Item 10 on the form asks if the applicant has applied for or received a SSN card, and one of the responses is "don't know" so they must be able to look it up. I can't get past their automated system. It said to tell it the problem I'm having. I said "I need help with form SS-5."
It said "I can help you with form SS-5. Please be more specific."
I said "I don't know the social security number."
It said "I will transfer you to someone who can help you. Your estimated wait time is seven minutes. Press one to try the automated system again, or press two to wait for the representative."
I pressed 2.
It said "please enter the social security number for the person this call is about."
Then I threw the phone against the wall.
Is there anyone who can help me? Anyone been in this situation?
