The day was Sunday February 17th.....the day before my son's 8th birthday. I had taken him and my daughter up to Wal-Mart to get his birthday present. Before I left, I went upstairs to check on the dogs. Rolly (14 years) old and Tyler (12 years old)......Tyler had been coughing and wheezing, but my husband said he had the same symptoms in December and pulled out of it. We just thought it was a cold.
When we came back from Wal-Mart, I went upstairs to check on them again. I went over to cage and Rolly lifted his head....Tyler was sleeping (as so I thought he was). So I took my finger and poked his butt, which usually simulates him to lift his leg and wag is tail but keep his head down as if he was playing a joke. This time he did not do it.......I immediately went into the cage and tried to wake him. I lightly shook him to try to wake him.....still no response. I then brushed his hair away from his face and saw that his eyes were open.......I knew then he was gone.
I just feel so guilty that I was not at home for him.......I also feel guilty because for the past 4 years we really have not taken both of them to the vets because of financial issues and they had to come last on everything. I was a bad mom to him and I wish I could go back in time to fix all this. My mother told me with the symptoms I had described to her was what our family vet said our family dog had........congenital heart failure and even if I did take him to vet they really could not do anything for Tyler. But I still feel guilty...........I miss him so?!?!?!!? My heart is so hurt..................
Thanks for listening.

Holly,
I haven't seen you in a while and had no idea this happened. I am so sorry! I know how pets are so much a part of the family and loosing one hurts so much.
We fear that our german shephard won't be with us much longer and like you, haven't been taken her to the vet because of financial reasons and still can't take her. We're just trying to keep her as happy as possible.
Anyway, sorry this happend to your family!
