Just doing a Poll to see how many people have been a victim of identity theft or know of anyone that has. Please feel free to share your stories. I work with our local sheriff department in doing id theft seminars, so this info would be helpful.

My mother was a victim before getting protected herself. She is not sure how, but someone got a hold of her debit card number (that she only uses at her ATM and nowhere else) and charged for some things in California, Florida, and on the Internet. Mind you, we live in TN. Luckily she got it taken care of quickly before it went too far.

I like to help educate people about Identity Theft and what can happen when you become a victim. I also like to help people protect themselves and their families against this terrible crime. It's currently the fastest growing crime in America.

Just yesterday I received something in the mail from the post office that was giving information on Identity Theft and how prevalent it is. You will also see all kinds of commercials and shows on TV talking about it.

If you want to have the security and know that you are protected, click here to visit this site today to find out about how you can obtain daily protection against it and how you can receive complete restoration from the professionals if you do become a victim. This is the leading company in Identity Theft protection and restoration and they are currently the only one that has the full suit of products needed for complete protection.

I was taken for, We were new to aol and got theis message that they needed to update their systems. So they asked for my credit card, for billing, My mother maiden name and my social for security reasons. I was totally giving them everything. A month later we had some racked up charges on our credit card (porn) ugh! But this was about 8 years ago. We are well aware of the proper procedures of aol. We also had a credit swipe. This is what they believed happened, someone somewhere took out card (restaraunt, gas station, fast food) and double swiped it with another box to download our info. This has actually happened twice. There charges all in Cali at gas stations for car parts, gas, ol changes. I dont know why we are such targets, but we are VERY careful now!!!

Feb. 22, 2008 at 10:25 AM My parents just had a big issue with someone hacking into their Comcast account, changing passwords and who knows what all else. Very stressful for them to get sorted out, but at least no money was stolen from them...

Feb. 22, 2008 at 10:27 AM Good to hear you are careful now... we never know when we might become victims. The issue with swiping the cards was very big here in our town for a while. It was a local mexican resturant that was doing it (actually a couple of them). They were getting their customers info and then sending it over to their family in Mexico to use. They were busted rather quickly when everyone figured it out.

I got a call from my bank's fraud department on Memorial Day asking if I made a specific purchase with my debit card which I had not.  I was amazed that they questioned it because it was only for $115 and I had recently made a few legitimate internet purchases.   I got the information about the company (a small motor company) from which the purchase was made and they told me that they have probably 500 transactions a day and only a few are legitimate and actually process.  People have computer programs which just keep arranging numbers until they get one that works.  Once they find it works, they go out and buy things they really want.  I'm not sure why they target that company (if it's something about their website, security, etc.  I am so thankful these people are here to catch these things.
