I heard today that you need a specific "bunkbed mattress" for bunkbeds?  Is this true?  I have two perfectly good twin size beds that I would like to use, although the matresses are quite thick.  Will these work?  Does anyone know?

Mar. 12, 2007 at 12:32 AM Bunkbeds do not require a special matress. But furniture stores do try to get you to buy bunkieboards to go with the beds. These a thin, flat boards that support the matress instead of using box springs. I just bought my son bunkbeds and 1 bunkieboard w/matress. We had a twin matress already so we used it on the bottom. The beds do have support boards running across the bottom too, but they say that can damage the integrety of the matress. I used this set up as a child for 8 yrs and never had any problems.
