I think I'm too old to understand

I have custody of my two year old stepgranddaughter, at least I think she is my stepgranddaughter, but anyway, I have had her for a little over a year, and well my stepson her dad, doesn't seem to be doing right by her, He lives right behind us and barely comes to see her. Her mother which exposed her to crack during pregnancy and a few other drugs see's her maybe once every three months, well low and behold she pops up after four months and of course I refused to let her see the baby......why?? well I think that it really messes with the babys mind. So upon the refusal, the mother tries to argue with my fourteen year old about it...My fourteen year old tells her she can't blame anyone but herself that for goodness sakes she doesn't even call to keep up with her daughter,.....so at this point the mother shows up at my door and asks for my number, so I hand it to her written on a piece of paper, and of course she asks again can I see her, I told her absolutely not unless she is going to be consistant then I wasn't allowing it, and in that conversation I told her that the baby was asleep sick with a fever of 102, okay then she goes to tell me that the baby doesn't even belong to my stepson that she slept around with alot of guys, and well thats wasn't a surprise to me and I told her so but also I told her that it didn't matter who she blood belonged to that she was my granddaughter and she wasn't leaving my house that I would fight her all the way to the supreme court if I had to....I think that she thought that if she told me the baby didn't belong to my stepson that I would just hand her over, well when I responded with what I did she stated that she was going to take me to court and get custody back.....hahahah I find that real funny because for one she is still on drugs, and two every court date we had leading to our custody she never showed and of course the courts showed prejudism toward her....Now my thing is it has been a week since her little scene and leaving with my phone number and knowing the baby was sick I have yet to hear anything from her.....Now I have a court date with her dad for child support should I request a d.n.a and try for termination rights on the mother and adopt her or just keep gritting my teeth...what would any of you do???????

Well I would definetly do that.  Poor thing needs you all in her life.  If her mom or dad gets her it will be the same.  Running around smoking who knows what with her in the car.
