This journal post is going to be a huge venting session for me becuase I deal with this question on a daily basis and it seems that people just dont understand how the release of their medical records works.

Medical records that are generated in your doctors office are the property of that doctor NOT the property of the patient.  As a patient you MUST fill out a records release form to receive your records.

If a physician's office gives you a copy of your records without a signed consent they are breaking the law!

I have patients literally yelling at me because my receiptionists (or myself) will not fax or email records to just any random fax number/email address that they come up with.  Their arguements drive me insane.  The argement that irritates me the most is the fact that these people think that the records are THEIRS!!

WHEW!  Thanks for listening! If you have questions let me know................

My hubby got a kidney stone and I had to take him to the emergency room once, I called into work for him and the asshole boss didn't believe me! I told him what hospital we were at, and this jerk actually CALLED the hospital and demanded that the nurse release the information on my husband.

Can you believe some people>?
